Another very good informative site on the SMLE short mag Enfield rifles.. The Rifle, Short, Magazine, Lee-Enfield a very nice site, and the gallery of pics slideshow ... Gallery #1 site link. Apprentices Association Enfield-Stuff Home Page __________________
Nice site regarding the Enfields. Question. If a place has these for sale, would you think they might be WWII era, or from an earlier or later time? (I noticed they also list more Enfield’s in addition to these, but they are noted as Mk III India Drill Purpose Rifles, Cal .303, so obviously they are not WWII.)
smle ishapore DP marked would be of WWI stock, and would definately have been used..WWII if you need to ask questions on the enfield, I would suggest contacting david gadbois at enfield stuff link, as he is very knowledgeable, ray..
DP rifles can be WWII. No Problem there is a really good site with very knowledgeable and helpful guys at milsurps.com. Regards Ulrich

Ray, you´re a lucky guy! I´ve been looking since years for an "Smelly" but the prices for this rifle are heavy for good ones, or they are looking like the troops of Alexander the Great were using them as crutches on their way back home from India. Regards Ulrich
Is $500 for a WWII Lee Enfield No. 5 Mk I (Jungle Carbine) in great condition sound like a good deal? (Store has been around since right after the Civil War and is know for being very reputable for WWII small arms)
100% good deal, here is one in the u.k. Lee Enfield No5 .303 Jungle Carbine - Live Firearms and Shotguns
Thanks sniper1946, that Enfield sure felt great in hand (but not as much as that Gewehr 41 did). Should never have told them I just started collecting, and was starting off with one rifle from each major representative country from WWII. He said for less than $250, I could get both a WWII Russian Mosin-Nagant, and my choice of either a WWII Italian M1938 or an M91 with a folding bayonet – again all in great condition. Only had less than an hour there before closing, and got more of a history lesson from the WWII arms specialist then time to look at the actual selections. Going back next weekend with more time to look and learn, and hopefully buy.
