what a great afternoon I had, knock on the door, 3.20 pm, plain clothes police? I had been reported to the ploice for having weapons on the property..lol.. verbal warning and arrested, which then allowed them to the right of full search..and the tactical weapons squad were called to attend, to check each weapon and paperwork, and full examination of all weapons, and the right to full search of house... given my rights and left them to carry out full search.. was I bothered! no! 4.20 having looked thro anything and everything? inside and outside, I was de-arrested, and signed paperwork to say so. end of story.. ha! ha! no problems, I understood, the job had to be carried out.
I always knew you were a dangerous character, Ray. Whoever would have reported you to the police? Sounds downright un-neighborly to me.
sniper, Wow ! If the police came into my house here in Arizona they would most likely say something like, "man that's a great old shotgun, rifle, what have you." They would certainly not arrest me. Damn, I like the UK and its people, but I don't think I would want to live there. Went on a police ride-along a couple of years ago, and the young policeman I was with was being all too careful in what he was saying until I mentioned I was a life member of the NRA. He gave me a big smile, followed by a firm handshake, and said, "that's great now I can cut the crap." He was a great guy, a former Marine (no counting for taste and I didn't hold it against him), and a firearms enthusiast. Best Regards, Duckbill
Lol that's funny I wonder who was the snitch....., the worlds full of nosey people. How many rifles do you have?
thanks guys, and they were all very cool, and very interested in the memorbillia as much as having to do a job...my son was here and he knew 3 of the officers, as my son is a prisoner custody officer in st albans magistrates court, all very amiable, but I did make a point of saying! I must be away at 5.15 as it's curry night..lol.
Don't you just love neighbors sometimes? Sorry to hear about that Ray. You need a NRA across the pond there that is as nutty and powerful as ours.
Hi Ray, thought you live in the UK and not in Germany? Over here its normal to be controlled if you own guns. Regards Ulrich
thanks ulithi/ulrich.. it's good to see them doing investigation, but no! it's pretty good really, I mean! I'm part of neighbourhood watch, and have had several police officers in here, and we have chatted, and nothing more than nice collection, it never bothered them, but when reported they have to attend, I'm happy about it..
I bet they got a great history lesson Ray, did the officers have any favourites amoung your militaria
crap NRA will support you after the fact. gun support is one of the strongest in the states in my little area even with the survivalist clowns in the woods with full autos Ray you better expect another call, seriously you have a lawyer laying on your doorstep
One of my fellow gun-club members is a very high official in the "Not The Army But Could Be At Any Moment" gang. Nice phone number to have if there's a problem.
Every see/read the stuff the HOA sends out around Election time? I'm amazed the 'candidates' haven't tried to light each other on fire yet - neighbors are not very friendly at all!
Sounds like to me that your ill-willed, Mrs Krabbitz-like neighbor, is simply envoius of you and your collection. Glad to hear it turned out well. Hell, when I was still living in my hometown, I had police, Deputies and such over at the house all the time-mainly as customers ;-)) I used to ride my bike or simply walk around town with a rifle strapped crossways cross my back, or simple held in my hands. Nobody ever batter an eyelash. Now days though, they would probably call out not only SWAT, but the "Black Helicopter Guys". Gone were the days when I could walk into a bank carrying a rifle :-( And yup, I did so on many occasions walked into Kleberg First National Bank in my hometown, carrying rifles/ Why? because I could do so. Heck, I know quite a few people who-like me, could walk into the local post office carrying guns, and nobody gave a ship.
Your little "visit" reminded me of a guy I use to work with who was a Woodcarver Extraordinaire! His wood carved birds were very life like. One of his neighbors turned him in for having a taxidermy Red Tailed Hawk. ( protected wildlife) It was on a table near a window and the Conservation Officers showed up to confiscate the "bird" and give him a huge fine. They actually started to argue with him until he told them to pick it up. A few minutes of hemming and hawing, then another half hour of complimenting him and looking at the rest of his collection. The 'kicker' was the neighbor must have used a telescope to see into the window due to the distance and was instructed about the ramifications of privacy and calling in false reports!
appreciate all reply's, neighbour? not..but you can see the collection when you look through the main window, and only at night when he room lit, so someone could have seen them, but the yrs they have been up, it makes you wonder...or just some grumpy old git...
I would try and find out who is the little creep who tried to get you in trouble and tell him he is a few generations late for anonymous denociation letters......
