I have a few pictures taken late war that are without captions. They would most likely be 7th Army in the Heilbronn area through southern Germany and Austria.

In some of the pics you can just about make out signposts and direction arrows. It would be great to narrow them down - all ideas are welcome!

    Let's try three for starters:

If this is fun I have a few more.

    Hello Up from Marseille,
two of the pictures were taken on the way between Karlsruhe and Heidelberg. I guess picture No.0026 was taken in or near Karlsdorf (nearly 20 miles north of Karlsruhe/25 miles south from Heidelberg). On of the direction arrows I guess I am able to read "RAB Karlsdorf"-R.A.B means "Reichsautobahn" (now you would call the "interstate 5") On picture No. 0018 I am reading on the direction arrows on the buttom "Heidelberg" 25 km and "Durlach" on the one above. The pic 0031 I am not able to identify bcause I don´t know this buildung.

    Nordwind511,
Thanks very much for your input.
On #31 I'm puzzled what "CONAD" means. When I Google it I get an Italian grocery chain, but it started in 1962.
On #18 the signs on the signpost read "RAB Karlsruhe" and "--- Ulm" on the right. On the middle I can't make out the top, the next reads "G------ M-----" over "Zegin"(?), the next down reads "Gove--- M----" over "Villa" and the small signs at the bottom read "Ulm", then "Heilbronn" then "Mannheim" on the very bottom. I think.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks again.

On #18 on the middle there´s "Durlach 18 km" (I am absolutely sure) and on the bottom "Heidelberg 15km" - so it´s probably near Karlsdorf (20km north to Karlsruhe)

"CONAD" was "the official short title for CONtinental ADvance Section." Basicly, the logistical entiry that supported the Allied advance from the landings at Southern France, August 15, 1944, through the Colmar Pocket, & across the Rhine River at Mannheim, Germany, by Sixth Army Group.

    Excellent help, gentlemen.
The 781st TB traveled in this area, so it fits.

Richard, Any thoughts on why "CONAD" erected a billboard?

    Hello John,

here´s the answer for "CONAD": it means: Commander of North American Air Defense. So I suggest that the sign shows the next direction to the CONAD somewhere in north of Italy (probably 1944)
For example General Clarence T. Edwinson was the designated commander of the 30th CONAD. He served in Italy in 1944.
