I painted this margarita glass for my sister-in-law to give to her boyfriend for his birthday on the 25th (I'm not big on margaritas, but he is).

Anyway, I value everyone's opinion here. So, does this look ok to give to her? I sent her a pic via text message but she has not responded yet, so I'm kind of worried it's not up to par.

Its definitely not my best work, and as a matter of fact I think it's a little boring. However, I'm not sure if there is anything more I can do with it.

Any suggestions or comments on it? I took the photo crooked and can assure you the glass is not leaning the way it looks. (It looks like a had a few when I took the photo actually :))

I acctually have to say it looks really good and I think as long as he is no kind of art critic he will be happy.
I think you hear it often, but you are very talented.

It looks fine to me, but then I don't drink. Two questions; where is the passed out guy on the floor? and why not just have her give the guy a margarita?

Looks good to me too, but since my experience with Tequilla is limited to a lack of funds in the seveties, I wonder where is the guy riding the floor buffer? A'la the Red Neck Comedy Tour, and Bill Engvald?

My ex-wife's brother used to drink a thing called a "Brave Bull" which was a shot of dark tequilla, and a shot of Kaluha on the rocks in a Manhattan glass. A couple of those and when you were holding onto the grass you felt like you were falling (not throwing) "UP!

Ean wasn't ever one for the more sedate "margaritia" style, when he drank tequilla it was serious!

That said, good work again. Your artisty leaves the rest of us in envy to say the least.

I greatly appreciate the the feedback guys, I feel better about it now.

I just can't wait to get the thing out of the house, so I can stop worrying about it and get back to painting battleships and such.

Looks good to me Ulithi. As others have mentioned you certainly have talent. It's a picture you look at once, and then go back to look at again to see something else you missed the first time.

If you did want to do anything more, perhaps a bit more texture to the lime if you wanted more realism. Personally, I quite like the abstract quality and the bright colours. Looks like acrylic? What are you using for green? It looks like a mix of various Pthalo greens. AHave you tried the Quinacridone colours?

Darren what was the medium you used and the dimensions if I may ask ? I've dealt in pencil/pen/ink for over 40 years.......even taught in college for a time when I was not somewhere else in the land of Nood

He should dig it no prob.

    It's done with oil on a 11" x 14" panel. I usually like to use 16" x 20", but my sis-in-law thankfully wanted a smaller one.

I don't know if you have seen it Erich, but I have some of my WWII artwork in an album now in my profile if you would like to look.

I have a special place in my heart for pencil, pen and ink, as I did quite a bit of that in high school. I was ok at pencil, but I am lacking in skill with pen/ink and scratchboard.

Love to see your work sometime Erich!

Darren I used to work in watercolur and pen/ink on 18 x 24 formats, this is what I have sold years ago, sea-scapes off the Orygun coast, would take me some 3 months to complete since I was such a stickler for minute detail, the eyes were better than a hawks at the time, not now sadly they are shot

I still have the smaller formats around the house usually trees straight up black on white and framed in black/white/silver and of course some 5-8 notebooks filled with oddities but much smaller in scope, will see what I can scan and put up.

Thanks Tex, that's appeciated, but "Sammy B" escapes me?

BTW, Margaritas are not "manly enough" for Texans. I'll buy you a shot and a brew! :D

USS Samuel B Roberts (a DE that fought like a battleship), A destroyer escort (a tin can)! Fought the Japanese Northern fleet along with Taffy 3 in the Battle of Samar (Leyte Gulf) . See "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" or go to

USS Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    (All three would be ok!)

Darren, I highly recommend that book. It is a monument to the men who served on the DDs and DEs in the Pacific. It is one of the most involving books I have read on the Pacific Theater.
