    Hi all,

I'm seeking info about attached photo. It's obviously an award presentation but can anyone tell anything else from the photo (who, where, when, etc.)? I know...not much to go on but any info you might provide would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Melissa

Only thing I can add is that they are awarding Iron Cross Second Class somewhere on the Eastern Front.

Carl would be a good source. I'm guessing but the buildings in the back plus the uniforms (to my eyes) are post 42' style. I'm trying to figure out the emblem on the soldiers left hand side of his helmet. Thought it was the polizei emblem but tis not.

    Thanks guys.

Erich: Thanks for the reference photo. Kriegsmarine, eh? I thought it would be Heer Infanterie, probably Eastern Front. But you know it's Kriegsmarine from the collar tabs? Any guess as to when or where this might be?

Hi M, sorry about not seeing this here earlier cept in a pM but I didnt think he could have been Coastal Artillery? Never entered my mind and makes sense. I though he waspolice thanks to the dark piping aroud his collartab. This is one heck of a great photo. I have quite a few of men awarded their EKis, EKIIs, Infantry Assault Badges and War Merit Crosses w/Swords 2nd Cl.

As for Eastern front, let me do more studying and ill see if i can plant something more definate. i specialize getting pics from the Eastern front-so maybe i cna even give a location.

Do you have any writing at all on the backside/ If so/ that will greatly help.

I think its still East Front but dont think its inside Russian borders though.

I confirm this is eastern Europe architecture. Also if I am correct the helmets are M-42 models (it's kind of hard to see if there is a rim or not though)

    Thanks guys.

Carl...thanks for taking a closer look when you get the chance. Interesting to see what you think. No, unfortunately, there is no writing on the back of photo.

Skipper...good info. I agree that the architecture appears to be eastern European. I can't tell as much about the helmets (nor do I know that much about helmets) but was thinking M-42.

    Thanks again. :)

    All the best,
    Melissa

This looks like it has been scanned from a book. The Sepia tone is consistent with a re-print.

    Hi Rich,

A friend sent me the jpg...not sure where it might have originated.
