    Hello,

Wondering if anyone has any insight into potential differences in the report from a Gewehr 41 and Karabiner 98k. I'm aware that they use different firing systems but not sure how this would translate into the sound they make when fired.

Better still, is anyone aware of a site which might have sound clips of them being fired?

    Thanks!

Can't help you on that one. I do have a G43 & K98 and i can tell no difference in the sound on them. But i use a heavy set of ear muffs now .( I didn't when i was younger and now i have a lot of high -F hearing loss) . papabyrd

I don't think you'll get a definitive answer to this one without actual firing experience of both weapons ; unlikely due to the rarity of the G41.

Logically, both weapons used the same ammunition and barrel lengths were similar ; but the G41 of course used a muzzle-cup system of gas retrieval ( gas was trapped as the bullet left the muzzle ). Therefore, some reduction in muzzle-blast may have resulted.

Contemporary film clips won't help ; these are nearly all post-dubbed.....

    Thanks both for replies.

What about the difference in sound between a german WW2 rifle and a handgun or single shot from an SMG?

I live in Ireland and only fired weapons a handful of times, but i'm guessin the report from a rifle would be considerably louder than a pistol or smg? Any takers? thanks!

Very different. Pistols and smg's fire rounds which are subsonic ( eg 9mm, .45ACP ) whereas WWII rifles ( eg 7.92, .303 ) are supersonic. The quality of the 'bang' is different, as is the whipcrack noise of bullets flying overhead.....

Really, I think the only way to get DMCH the info he needs is for Papabyrd to set up a firing demonstration at his place.

    And a BBQ.

    I'll bring the beer!

On a serious note- are there any weapon firing demos in your area, DMCH? While I've never been to one, I do know that even up here in "anti-gun Massachusetts" there are semi-regular events where various military arms are brought out and demonstration fired.

I know Bovington Tank Museum in England brings their vehicles out, though they don't fire any of the guns (as far as I know?); maybe there's something similar with small arms?

Y'all come on down ! I don't have a G41 but we can make some loud bangs with just about every other rifle from WW2. What about a 03-A4 & a K98 or a M1D and a Japanese type 99.if you really want loud we can shoot my Russian M44 carbine. LOL. papabyrd
