Hi all, My name is Jan, and I was brought here while doing research on my grandfathers' military service. He has recently passed away, and I want to honor him by making a detailed book about his military life. He took a lot of photos while he was in the European Theater. I have to admit that my interest is mostly in his service at the moment, but once I finish his I will start on my paternal grandfathers' who was in the Battle of the Bulge, and two great Uncle's who both served in the Pacific. My husband is an avid WWII fan, mostly with the social factor of the war. He spends most of his time watching, reading and talking WWII.
Hello Jan! Nice to meet you and welcome here! We love to see pictures if you would like to post them for us. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to ask us. Someone usually can answer them for you!
Thanks for the welcome! I would love to post some pictures. One of the things I would really like to do is to try and find some of the men in the pictures, or their families. Luckily. my grandfather wrote the names on it, but it is still pretty difficult to know where to turn.
Hi. Go ahead and post some photos and hopefully someone will be able to help. Wartime photos always have a fascinating story to tell.
I'm still tryi8ng to figure out the system here, but will post some when I figure out where to put them
You can either post them in the body of a message, or click the 'go advanced' button and scroll down to where it says 'manage attachments' and add up to 5 at a time there, or you can click on your member name, choose 'view public profile' and it takes you to your page where you can set up an album on the right. The fourth alternative is to upload them to a storage like photobucket or similar and post links. Hope this helps
Thanks, I have loaded some of what I have in my profile, and will post another round at home, as I don't have them all with me now.
Great pictures, thanks. If you want to get or share views and info about individual ones, you could start your own thread - check this link for Carlos' printing plates thread as an example; http://www.ww2f.com/wwii-books-publications/45432-wwii-printing-plates.html although perhaps; WWII General - World War II Forums would be a better place to post - just click on 'forum tools' and 'post a new thread' then add photos as you like and see what people come up with. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for posting the photos Jan. My father also served in Italy. Why don't you tell us what you know of your grandfather's service? What unit was he in? What medals was he awarded? Did he share any of his stories with you? Many of us are interested in such details, and we may be able to fill in any blanks for you.
