Thanks for posting this in depth battle better known by the vets that were there the meat grinder. My uncle was with the 10th infantry 5th division. I have a couple letters he wrote about being in the metz area. He was later killed dec 23rd in lux. I still say taking metz was a waste and a ego thing for patton like most experts said all we had to do is surround it and starve the germans out.

Thanks for the link Dave. My Dad was there throughout with the 607th TD Bn, attached to the 90th, 5th and 95th ID's. They converted to M36 destroyers in Nov, 44 and the photo on page 40 shows a C Co. TD.

The 106th Panzer Brigade listed in the OOB, within the link to the earlier thread, provided by T.A. Gardner is the same unit the 90th/607th battled with in early Sept. as noted in this link starting on page 30: http://books.google.com/books?id=D5Q445giK3cC&pg=PA37&lpg=PA37&dq=607th+tank+destroyer+battalion&source=bl&ots=OofnBqCJFU&sig=N2YDpxXsB8UCsZjzgWBKBeint28&hl=en&ei=GFoxTNC5MYuCnQeU98TUAw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=8&ved=0CCkQ6AEwBzha#v=onepage&q=607th%20tank%20destroyer%20battalion&f=false
