    Hi
    My name is Gail, I live in NYC. I am 58 yo. My father is at the end stage of life and in a hospice. I knew my father was in WWII and that he had shrapnel in his leg and arm but he never talked about his time in the war. In cleaning out his home, my aunt came across my fathers medals and discharge papers. My dad is nonresponsive now and I can't ask him any questions. I am at a total loss as to what these papers mean. I really need help finding out what unit he was with, etc. If anyone can help me get the information off of his discharge papers, I would greatly appreciate it.
    I would love to have this information written down for my grand children for when they get older, especially my daughter's children as my son in law is currently serving in Iraq
    thank you so much for your help

    Hi Gail and welcome to the forum :)

    If you can collect together everything you have and either scan it, photo it or transcribe it, then if you go to this section of the forum;

    Military Service Record & Genealogical Research - World War II Forums

    click where it says forum tools on the right and you can select 'post a new thread' - get as much detail as you can in there and I'm sure everyone will help you get your father's story together.

    :)

    Thank you all very much. This is really difficult with my father only having days left in this life. But I guess it's my way to hang on and get to know him better.
    Thank you
    Gail

    Welcome Gail. I already posted on your other thread, but thought I would take the time for a formal welcome.

    You are to be commended for preserving your father's legacy for your grandchildren. They will learn to cherish it.
