That's kind of nice of the robber.....I wonder if he put a return address on the envelope!

Well, that is awfully 'decent' of the thief, at least the hard work stored on the laptop wasn't lost in a "format" and re-sale! If the guy was sharp enough to put it onto a USB memory stick, he/she most likely kept finger prints, skin cells, and other "clues" out of the mix.

When I was moved here from Indiana my brother and sister-in-law packed my stuff (I was in and out of ICU at the time.) When I finally got settle down I found they had packed several dozen cans of soup, some breakfast cereal, and two loaves of bread. They did not pack my library, my computers or my files. Seventeen years of work, including several one-of-kind documents from the Naval Historical Center, went to Goodwill.

How the __ll do you recover from something like that? 17 years worth gone. I cannot even begin to imagine what a loss like that would be like.

I have a new respect for you!

I don't have the greatest library but my books are my most cherished items, and I would guard them more than any other material items I have.

I guess that's why you put tons of information up on the net now!

The stuff on ibiblio wasn't gone, of course. But the "goodies" I'd accumulated doing the research at Purdue were lost until I find them again. The really upsetting part was the loss of the NHC items. They were entrusted to me and I failed.

And this is why I want to move to Sweden, even the thieves are nice XD

Wow, OpanaPointer that really sucks, I guess that kinda shows how different the priorities of people can radically vary, even between family.

OpanaPointer, it can be weird when you allow (or need) others to pack and store your "stuff". When I moved over to Bozeman to start my graduate school time, I had a good friend and his signifigant other living with me at my place. I was a "renter" by then, but he and she had been there for a couple of months that summer while they looked for a place of their own.

I paid my last months rent, and told them they could stay until the month was over while they looked for another place if they would pack the "stuff" I didn't take with me and put it in a storage shed I had already rented. They could also use the shed for stuff of their own until they found a place.

When I got to checking a few months later, I had lids but no pots and pans from my stainless steel set, and electric knife set of blades, not the power unit. A single White boot (the other never showed up), none of my woolen socks, and no lefse turner, no krumkake iron, and other weird little "kitchen" helpers were never found.

They split up before I ever got to check my "stuff" out, and so I have NO idea where any of that ended up. But, compared to your loss a minor irritant that just made me go "huh....".

The reason I was moving was so somebody would have my cats when I died. I wasn't doing too good at that point. I was bleeding from every orifice when we got down here from Indiana. I went straight to the E.R. As you can imagine, packing was a bit of a challenge at that particular time.
