trying to get information for a shadow box im building for my grandfather. he was in the US Navy in the 50s. It looks like this: And here's the actual image of the ribbon: Thanks ahead of time for any help you can offer.
The only ones that seems to fit is the Prisoner Of War medal, although there are some differences, it doesn't seem to be from any other nation. Prisoner of War Medal or the Cuban Pacification Medal, which seems unlikely as was from 1907; http://rustyknight.topcities.com/Cubanpacifusmc.htm Hope this helps
Not entirely, I'll have my mother ask on Saturday. Im trying to keep this a secret until Christmas, hopefully he doesnt think anything is up... If/When I do find out, (if it hasnt been established here) ill be sure to let you know.
SDMF--The ribbon shown is an U.S. Air Force Military Training Instructor Ribbon. I don't find one like it in either the Navy or Marine ribbons. Was he in the Air Force after serving in the Navy? Dave
could be but also not exactly same; Air Force Decorations - Air Force Basic Military Training Instructor Ribbon the red/white/blue are in wrong order
You're right--I just looked again and the end colors are different. Sorry I'll keep looking. I don't have a book on the National Guard ribbons but could be one of those. Dave
Could be a foreign country medal... Been looking in my books but couldnt find anything close to that ribbon
Found it I think ... Washington National Guard State Awards: Washington Achievement Medal here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Awards_and_decorations_of_the_National_Guard#Washington
It seems as close as any, but the ends appear to be white on the original, but not on the Washington Award.
Look more closely to the .svg, it's hard to tell on the grayish background. I tried to find more infos about that medal but couldn't find anything.
interesting. Ill have to ask him about that. Maybe he was doing something in conjunction with them and received it, I am almost positive he was never a member of the WANG.
Regardless, what a great link to have bookmarked. I didn't have a book on National Guard Awards, now I don't need one--thanks
This medal means that he was stationed in the Pacific theatre during WWll. I was also there 1944-46. Hope this helps. James Giovinazzo
