I'm a new member from Tennessee. I teach history at a community college and head up our Normandy program. The last three years, I've driven students all over Normandy and the Loire Valley for a total of 6,000+ miles. I believe that my students have visited more out of the way Normandy campaign sites, and many other historical sites, than just about anyone. I've founded a historical tour company to take paying customers on a luxury tour of Normandy. I would like to introduce it here, but want to make sure that is not only within the official rules, but acceptable to most of the forum at large. I also want to be a regular forum contributor, but would love to tell people about my tours.
My profile pic is of one of the 248 Tennessee state flags that my students placed on the graves of each Tennessean buried, or listed as missing, in the Normandy American Cemetery. We raised the funds from private donations to place the flags. My students and every American that walked by were moved. The cemetery staff became emotional and told us that no other state, as far as they back as any of them could remember, had ever been honored so. God bless those 248 Volunteers that paid such a price for my freedom.
Since you asked first, it is perfectly alright by me. I am one of the administrators of this site. I wish you success in your endeavor.
BrockTours I have visited Normandy many times. I have relatives that fought on both sides of the conflict and both are burried at Normandy in the respective cemetaries. US side was Utah Beach and the 4ID. At La Cambe my misguided German Cousin was buried in the common grave (as in not a lot of him left to have individual marker and killed in a group - Kill them now and let God sort them out later deal) due to Allied Bombardment of the Normandy defenses. I have pictures somewhere - can dig them up and scan. Might be interesting subject to have a family that fought on both sides as part of your tour (I just want my 10% ... LOL ... Joking) v/r Armgruf u. GenFld der Waffen SS
Thanks. I would love to see those pics. And we try to honor both sides on my trips. Especially the 12 SS Panzer boys.
