I'm 53 (ouch!) years old, have been collecting WWII for some years. Particularly interested in Kriegsmarine and uboats. I have a small collection of Uboat badges. I am also restoring a 1943 Willys jeep. I also collect WWII Home Front (USA) ephemera. I'm a writer, and just submitted my first two articles on WWII. Wish me luck. Will be starting a thread on a Kriegsmarine personnel file that I purchased some years ago. My German is not so good (I speak French and Spanish) so help in identifying what I have would be appreciated.
welcome Leslie from a fellow Oregonian way to your south also very much interested in the Kriegsmarine. I remember little Sandy back in the 1970's on my way to lead climbs on Mt. Hood, not so small Sandy anymore as it has spread out which I knew it would.....
Welcome to this fine forum, Leslie. There's plenty of interesting material, but we always welcome new areas of interest. There are several Kriegsmarine aficionados about, so jump in and enjoy.
Welcome aboard. You may also want to take a look at the kbismarck forum. It's very heavy into KM issues as one would expect.
Thanks for the kind words. Say, could you clarify something for me. Is it permissible to try to trade stuff through the forum? To sell (I assume not.) I have acquired some odds and ends and I'd like to trade stuff closer to my areas of interest. I searched for clarification on this issue, but couldn't spot any rules on this.
Hi Leslie, you can trade and sell here. Ive been doing it for years now ;-)) Just sold an Ariska Japanese Bayonet to a gent (and im hoping its arrived by now??) and as well, the photo collection of a DKiG Oberstleutnant. Possibly got a couple more deals in the works. What are you wanting to part with? Im no longer "really" into KM stuff but?? if the price is right???? I still have the few KM badges I collected and will probably never part with them. Includes: Destroyer War Badge made by: Friedrich Orth (my favorite maker) as well as a Uboat badge and brass cored EKI,
Hello Leslie, nice to have you aboard! I am interested in the Kriegsmarine as well, and the other navies of the times too.
Welcome - I don't know how far you are from Portland but I hear there is a great independent bookstore there (I believe it is named "Powell's") and was curious if you have been there and what you thought (particularly about their WWII section) - I am in Michigan but I travel quite a bit for work and thought I might check it out.
yes go to powells at least once, huge store very confusing to get around in, military section is rather large but not set up in an organized way, truthfully it was a waste of time in my eyes. check their online web-site and punch in your interested title you may find it stored in their monster warehouse
Trading is not actually allowed on the forum. This being said, we happen to have a tolerance (for an exceptionnal trade) for our regular members who have been posting here for many years. Carl is our top poster so, we close our eyes, but when new members register just to sell things we remind them this is not an auction site. If you are going to stay and contribute then you might be accepted in this category.
most likely behind the scenes by using the PM function is the best bet without the hassle of mudding up the posts on threads without any interference
Thanks - At least I now know what I will be getting into...I will definitely check it out when I get a chance
Powells is the biggest bookstore west of the Mississippi. I go there about every two weeks. Over a million books under one roof. I love the place. Portland city limits are about 15 miles from my house. Downtown - where Powells is - is about 25 miles from my house.
If you are ever in Chicago......U505 is housed in a beautiful new addition to the Museum of Science and Industry. To be able to walk around and tour her interior is an amazing experience. When I was younger(1960's)one of the actual officers of the boat gave the tours. Plenty of display items from the boat as well.Gift shop has a great book on its capture. She is truly a beautiful machine and unique for those who want to get close to an only example left of her type. I have always felt that the KM was the least nazified of the services and were more patriotic.
