I was looking through some of the threads and noticed that there have been alot of people on this site who have alot to offer and only stay a short while, Why? I personally find this site to be very welcoming and full of infomation other sites ive seen are noware near as good as this one (this is my view) I personally think that they are missing out!
Unfortunately, life happens and distractions are prevalent. Many who have made their mark here have gone on to other priorities, which is sad but it happens. It would be nice if someone dropped them a "I miss you around here" note to see if they are okay..
Some come here to find an answer to a single Question, and once done have no further interest. While the vast majority of members are great, some do get banned or lesser punishments for forgetting to remember that is a polite, courteous form and not a blog for destroying someone you do not agree with. But as Lady Prime wrote sometimes life does not allways allow you to pursue your passion.
It's painfully simple; some people were just not meant for WW2F. They came, they couldn't hang, they skedaddled....
Some people either get it or they don't; unfortunately those that don't sometimes cause those that do to leave. I would gladly trade a spaniard for a displaced Irish shepard in the RAF.
Well I guess i'll chime in from the newby side....as you all can see very few posts...I can say i have enjoyed this site and have poked my head in from time to time over the last year to see some things but havent been or may never be real active poster...without the quote thing as Lady Prime and Belasar said.... life doesnt always allow you to pursue your passions......in my case I think its more like I get to many irons in the fire, chasing one project or another! As i saw on another thread though i guess a little participation is in order! and some "Time damn management"....You've probably heard that one before formerjughead Regards Clint
Some really great contributors have drifted away over time which is indeed very sad but as stated above, that is life..... But personally I am never happy with those who 'use' rather than 'contribute' : ie the one-question-trick-ponies whose vocabulary lacks the words 'thank' and 'you'. And I have no time at all for the ( mercifully few ) who burst in, throw their weight around, create discord - and then vanish.
Experience has told me that anything can happen to any member, including those who are regular posters. They can be swallowed by daily routine, getting tired, banned or bored and much more..... Some just vanish because one day they forget to connect and realise they do not need to register to the WW2F anonym meetings. Hello my name is.... and I am a WW2 buff. Hi........ ! Compare it to real life and real friends: some go some stay.
I´m glad to see we have pretty good "replacements" here after some long-time members have disappeared. But like said, life situation may change and you cannot stay here anymore. I´d still like to see Friedrich making his responses though...
I am like Slip myself...was a long standing member at other forums, and for one reason or another just drifted away. I do wonder about a few of the folks that were heavy hitters here and then just vanished. Hopefully they are on to bigger and better things.
Agree with all the comments. There have been a few terrific contributors we've lost to real life, that's just the way it goes. I'm also with kai-wish Freddie would find his way back.
I agree with you. I am coming here to learn, to read up and to listen more than anything else as I feel as if I finally FOUND a great forum with useful information and debate. People who burst in, throw their weight around and bloviate about how knowledgeable they are about this and that are not worth the effort to worry about. We have our own surly bunch of folks here and I like it that way... However, I promise not to act up...too much.
They come, they go, some stay, some don't, but the World keeps turning. I might as well throw in that I miss Kruska! Sure it got tough at times but most of the counter-fire was justified. And I did like his style.
I think Martin hit the nail on the head. While we have many significant contributors, there are many who come in for a quick answer or just out of curiosity and they fade quickly. Others seem hell-bent on creating turmoil, and we've had more than our fair share of spammers. Granted, there have been any number of interesting posters who have disappeared, and that is too bad. On the other hand, we have, in my time here, brought aboard more fresh ideas to keep us on our toes. As for me, I seem to find something new to pique my interest almost every day.
Everything on this board is intriguing....I find this forum to be part history lesson, part point/counterpoint, part Ancestry.com, and part VFW dance party and part Antiques Roadshow.
people are people of all different personalities folks, some get chaffed pretty easy and then leave really for silly reason(s) this happens on multiple forums not just military ones. Life has taken turns the last 5 years for many of us where we cannot "sit" on forums daily, moderate on even be a forum member in truth. Some of us also the last 5 years are just existing for varied reasons, the internet is not of prime importance. I do know that several serious research friends came on and within a year traveled elsewhere or dropped off the planet due to the forum being too broad ranged, they were more specific minded in thier own needs. Some started out as college youth now married, kids and then life really hit them between the eyes ..........
