Attached is a photo of my grandfather. The date is unknown. From two separate tiny little copies of his discharge paper work, I was able to identify that he was awarded the following: Good Conduct Medal(Army), Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the WW2 Victory Medal.
From this photo I have been able to identify the GC(bottom right), the PLM(top right), the APCM(middle bottom). I am however, unsure about the WW2VM, in addition to the remainder of the ribbons.
My grandfather died in 2002, and never talked about his service to any of his kids, so I know even less. I have submitted the paperwork to the National Archives, but must admit, Im a little impatient to see what comes back, if anything..you know, something about a fire.....
Anyhow, if anyone has any thoughts, ideas as to identity of the ribbons, please share. Thank you in advance.

    Welcome to the forum ssg_craven,
The attachment did not go through but here is a good site to help identify medals and ribbons.

    Army Medals and Ribbons
Let us know what you find and maybe try the picture again.

Thanks for the site. Ive searched it and others before, and I cant quiet confirm the unknowns, as much as I want to.
Unsure of the issue with the attachment, I click it and it pops up just fine.

I can't open the attachment, either. However, you can go through the following website at NARA to request replacement medals. You don't have to wait until all the paperwork records are compiled. Replace Veterans' Medals, Awards, and Decorations

I am now unable to open the picture as well, Ill try squaring it away this afternoon after work.
I see the replacement medal portion there, but Im unsure of all the medals/awards he was authorized, so I want to see what comes back from the records request I already made.

    Here's what you got:
WW2 Victory Medal-Army Of Occupation Medal-Phillipine LIberation Medal
American Campaign Medal-Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal- Army Good Conduct

If you click on each ribbon it should take you to the wiki link for the award

Ignore the below, Jug did it again. I'm off in never land and post late. Accolades to Brad once again!

Still looking but I "think" and that is a big think, the bottom left is the American Campaign Medal?

I figured the top left was the WW2 victory, but was unsure because of the coloring, or lack there of. As far as the top middle one being the Army of Occupation, Im not really sold, because of what appear to be 'white' bars/lines. In the photo it looks like theres 3 of them...
Again, thank you all for your opinions/help.

Hmmmm.....what do you think about this:
It's a Phillipine Independence medal and it was issued along with the Phillipine liberation medal and the Phillipine defense medal:

The sepia tone makes it very difficult

I don't think they're a match either, Brad. So far, I haven't managed to get a real handle on what it is. The other confusing thing (at least to me) is that the ribbons don't appear to be in the correct order of precedence. I realize that the image is reversed, but shouldn't the Good Conduct Medal be first and the WW2 Victory ribbon come after the campaign ribbons?

You might be right. I think that would put everything where it belongs, but it doesn't help in identifying that middle ribbon on th top.

Like formerjughead said it is hard to tell due to the sepia tone. Closest I can come up with is the Distinguished Flying Cross? and that's a stretch.

Good Grief!!!!!....here is what it should look like in the order of presedence with the occupation ribbon:

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

I did not even catch that it was upside down.....I hate sepia tones!!!!!!

I am thinking there is something we're missing....his ribbons are all jacked up and correct me if I am wrong but were ribbons even authorized for wear on that uniform?

    Heres the two of his discharge papers I have;
View attachment 12339 Sorry if they are hard to read, it was the best scan I could get, they are after all almost 3 inches tall, lol.

As you see, one states truck driver, the other bandsman. He never spoke to anyone about his service, and my father I believe was afraid to ask him. The only thing we know for sure was after the war he was stationed at Camp Hood, where he had his own band on base, when I get the photos of the band from my father, Ill post them.
Annnnnnnnnd, my grandmother was in the WAC at the time, they met at Hood. She was engaged to a CPT at the time, but my grandfather swept her off her feet. Lol.
