Recently I have known that there is a movie script about the WWII. It’s author - a Russian historian Dmitri Faust. The working title of the film – «Fueter» (a term from ballet or dance). Allegedly, the film is based on real events and confirmed by documents and facts. Plot: May 1945. The last days of the war. Second Shock Army is in combat with the remnants of German units, which locked in pot of East Prussia. Rygen island is already occupied by the Red Army. Command of the Army decides to inspect houses that some of them to create a recreation center for senior officers. They inspected one of the houses and find there a few old ladies (emigrant from Czarist Russia), who care for young German women (some of them quite children, total of about 50 people). These young German girl – are blind. They suffered from British and American bombing. After seeing the house, the general decided to leave the platoon of scouts (11 men) for the protection of the refuge for blind girls. The story of two enemy's standing together to fight a common enemy is an old one, so you are probably correct that it is only a story, but then there is the caveat that within every myth there lies a kernal of truth.
Could you perhaps send couple of these links? If it's not too much to ask. I'm actually quite interested in this. I do find the story a bit suss. Through what I've read most Russians didn't exactly behave too humanely to the locals in the first place, then again, as my boss at work said "if one black man steals, doesn't mean all black men steal".
I want to clarify that: there are many facts when Red Army soldiers raped and killed civilians. Moreover, I am sure and have proof that this was done not only because of revenge of individuals, but also was a deliberate policy of the Russian leadership. I ad always heard that frontline soviet troops tended to respect civilians, but support/reserve troops had a more mixed record.
