I believe and I will stand corrected if I'm wrong but Germany never went to full war production until 1943 which by then was to late.
Wages of Destruction is pretty much a must for anyone who's interested in the German economy from the early 30s through the end of the war.
And after the reading of The Wages of Destruction,one will see that already at the beginning of the war,Germany was on full war production,the claim it wasn't is a widespread invention by Speer(to increase his role:you know :if Hitler had listen to me and other blah blah).
I am sorry, but I can not agree. Unless you are using a different metric for measuring total war production, then the increase in numbers of units produced would seem to contradict your statement. Had all the new production been cheep knock-offs then perhaps so, but generally speaking the production of 1942-44 were of unitd either heavier or more powerfull design.
Well,US was already committed to full war production in 1942,but in 1944,its production was higher than in 1942. Full war production does not only mean X tanks,aircraft,....but also new plants,enlargement of existing ones ,...... The increasing production in 1942,1943,...was to to the preparatory work by Todt,who laid the foundations .(Of course,Speer later claimed it all was his work,and Todt could not contradict him,because he died in an aircraft acident in 1942)/ It took a minimum of a year to build and make operational,a new plant . The plans for things with a heavier and more powerfull design,existed already before Speer .The Assault Guns existed already in 1941,in 1940,Germany was planning a big increase of the number of tanks,a 400 % increase of the number of aircraft,but these would take time . Already in 1939,more than a third of the German workforce was made up by women,for Britain,it only was a quarter (Source :the Wages of Destruction). About the numbers of units,I think you are alluding on the Armaments production indexe of the Speer ministry,well I have some doubts on the genuieness of these figures :it is well known fact that Speer was an expert in the manipulation of statistics .
