    I have been looking at the various sites and generally corps are named via roman numerals. I,II,III,IV, etc.

    I have two questions;

    1) Did the WWII German army use this standard as well ? If not, what did they use ?

    2) If so, I have found a number of sites use XXXX to represent 40th ArmeeKorps and others use the accepted form of XL. Which form did the WWII German army actually use ?

    There are a number of ArmeeKorps and PanzerKorps that used either prefix of 'XXXX' of 'XL' for Korps numbered between 40 and 49.

    many times in official German documentation(s) the Roman numerals are used within the administration hierarchy though as Gebirgsj. has stated it is quite acceptable to use either one.

    Yes, I looked at that site Lexikon der Wehrmacht

    While it maybe acceptable to use either, is it confirmed (i.e. from German Army records), that they actually used XXXX ?

    Thanks for that ... I'll ensure that the German Armeekorps are named accordingly in my Game (see sig)

    I suppose seeing "XXXX" and calling it 40, is quicker than seeing "XL" and trying to work it out as 40, especially in the heat of battle.

    Take a look into the "Tagebuch des OKW der Wehrmacht" ( War diary of the High Command of the Whermacht)at there you can find it often.

    NOTE: I have used simply Korps, instead of the correct name of Armeekorps. I have also done this with the Italian Corpo, instead of Corpo d'Armata, which will make it clearer. So we have Corps, Korps, Corpos. So the players of my game can determine easily the size of the unit.
