My great Uncle either was stationed or did some of his training at Little Creek during WW2. I found the website but it is quite hard to find any information about a museum or history about it. While searching the Internet I have found very little about the history of the base, especially during World War II. Wikipedia and the main base site give me just basic information, not enough to look into it further.

Anyone know where I can the above mentioned history of the base? Do most bases around as long as Little Creek have museums on base? Maybe the Department of the Navy would help? Thank you for the help.

Something similar to this USNTS SAMPSON Naval Base - Training Center in WWII - Naval Hospital - State Park - Sampson Veterans Museum in New York State As you can see,the site has all the history behind the former naval base. I am curious to find out more information about the picture below that he was in. My Uncle started at Sampson Naval base then somehow went to Little Creek then Galveston, Texas for the rest of the war. Also, Little Creek seems to be merged with other bases when the BRAC recommendations were out years ago.The more information I can get, the more I can follow my Uncle's path during the war as his memory isn't what it used to be.

apart from the obvious not found much - if you had any ideas what your uncle's units were there would be a better chance - unfortunately the 7332 in the photo doesn't seem to give anything so far.

It seems the little creek organisation back in ww2 was not so much as a central training facility but as a bit of real estate on which small training organisations could park and play, so there doesn't seem to be much in the way of location history, just unit histories - and many of them were more classified or at least more specialist than normal so....

Thank you for the feedback on little creek. I am surprised at your findings! I'll check with my uncle and see if he has any more tidbits to share.

What is now NAB Little Creek was established in 1946 by combining the separate activities of :

Camp Bradford: Seabee and LST Crew training center.

    Camp Shelton:Armed Guard Training Center.

Naval Frontier Base: Marshalling and forwarding center for sailors and equipment bound for Amphib Forces in the ETO.

Amphibious Training Center: Sailors and other Service Members were trained here as LCI, LCM, LCU, and LCVP crews, as well as others being trained in other skills necessary for the NBB's in the ETO. this is the base that was referred to as Little Creek during WWII.
