My wife has a samsung "Touch" and it appears adequately idiot proof. My son has some manner of Crackberry that is equally idiot proof. Both have very Hi res cameras and displays. Both are quite capable of launching the Space Shuttle should the need arise.

I use a droid and love it. Reliability is where it's at for me. Never used a BB.
As a rule, I am unconditionally against national socialist mobile devices. :godwin: :D

I have an iPhone and though I generally don't know how to use anything other than the phone and a text message with any confidence...I am very happy with it. It's the 3GS and it's pretty fast even up where there is not a ton of wireless networks to grab onto.

Heard the RIM email servers were the fastest and most secure ( Obama loves his Berry ). Maybe just in Canada? ...I'm thinking Droid now. Want to have my DVR email motion detection clips to phone. I need to learn how to do that... Do not trust Microsoft, what with having to beat info out of them regarding i phone tracking... Thanks for the feedback....MB, could you say why Droid is much better?

I don't understand the "need" for a cell phone, unless you just want to talk and text to others 24/7. Remember that in the event of a EMP all the cells will go the way of the dodo in an instant while most low voltage, fiber-optic lines will remain "in contact" with the outside. Just a thought.

I have two sons who couldn't live with out a cell, but they keep landlines as well "just in case", as do I.

Small business owner. Need to be connected 24/7. Not a casual phoner. 95% business use. Still have land line. Costs an arm and a leg including internet. My last home phone, internet, cable bill was about 180$. Cell 60$. Our cell and cable/net rates are probably the highest in the world. With the worst infrastructure. We get the shaft here. Need competition, but isn't happening. Why not? Why don't we have more refineries? All about squeezing the Canadians here.

Sorry to hear that price "Poppy", my home phone (unlimited long-distance), high-speed internet (12mps), are both through the cable company (fiber optic) which I don't use for TV is always $80 (USD) per month. I use broadcast, or Hulu and JohnQ TV for all the other tv I want or need for no charge at all.

Sorry you need to pay $60 for cell just to keep the 24/7 viable for a business.

I want to organize a day of Canadian rage. Wieners and marshmallows followed by shinny, then protest. Not too loud 'cause John's gotta work at midnight.

That's a very good argument. The downside is that lightning stikes telephone pole while you are talking on a land line and 1.1 million jiggawatts is conducted directly to your tinfoil hat.

If they would just design a cell phone that does not work in a moving vehicle I would be happy. I am getting tired of playing Deathrace 2000 everytime I go to the store!

True enough, out in the sticks like our farms. But even there we had "lightning" arresters built into the phone lines. Generally in everybody's basement or where the line came into the house. Those would blow out with maddening regularity, so every house had four or six (they are used in pairs) spares around.

Back when the state deregulated electricity here in MT., our only Fortune Five Hundred company (Montana Power) sold itself off, went bankrupt in the telecom bubble, but not before they had laid down miles and miles of underground fiber optic cable. Most larger towns (over 5,000) are connected by 'lightning proof' buried glass cable. So that lightning strike to your "tin-foil hat" is rather unlikely around here. BTW, by deregulating our electricity the "invisible hand" of the free market raised our per kilowatt bill by nearly 90%, where it stays to this day. Where I paid less than $25 per month in early '90s, for the same place, same power usage, on Budget Billing; my bill went to $38 this January. The fourth increase in the last five years. Some deal huh?

Its your decision what should kill you! A accident while playing at the cell phone or starving to death while not driving to the store and playing at the cell phone:D

My biggest problem is the chance of being killed by a distracted driver, one using his/her cell phone for texting or talking. That is what turns a normal drive to the grocery store into a real-life version of Deathrace 2000. Driving defensively takes on a whole new meaning.

The old phone lines used to have carbon fuses in the demarcation box. The new ones are gas. I've had to dig up many a ground rod. In the sandier soil, a lightning strike would go to ground and create very intricate and delicate glass globs and fingers. If you managed to dig one out it was a prize. ...One old timer told me about the time he was in his cabin and lightning struck the phone line. Ball lightning came out of his phone and traveled very slowly down the hall and burst with a shotgun like sound. He said he could smell ozone and the hair on his arms stood on end. Also that it fizzed and crackled loudly. I had a lot of excellent conversations with the oldies working for the phone company out in the sticks.
