Hi a bit late, but yes SA is a fun place or used to be!
Lights chasing cars Yes it is documented, first some info the landscape is flat ded flat, bushes if you can call them that grow there. The bushes are about 2'6" or 800mm high on average. This means that anything above a bush can be seen for miles.
This is very true at night! It is also home to the longest straight & level section of train track in the world.

A. EG you saw the train headlight in the steam engine days about 2hrs before it got to your position.
B. in the old days some pilots flew low along the main hwy with landing lights on or even the flying doc so as not to get lost. (the main hwy was a dirt track before it was sealed in the late 70's)
c in answer to your question, no secret bases, no ufos, no test planes. Anything secret from Woomera went either W or East & that was only missiles.
d Woomera was the only spot in Oz that allowed anyone in, murderers rapists etc, there was only 1 condition any communist leaning in your background & you were sent away.
