Just got a copy of Regnat's Dornier DO 217. While it is in German, I have been able so far to muddle through reasonably well. And found an interesting little variant of the '217 which others might like to attempt.

It was Dornier DO 217 W(Schwimmerflugzeug-Projekt). There is a side view and a bit of a top view, and shows an early mark '217 on struts and floats. Further on into the article, the HE 59, 115, and HA 140 are mentioned, although my German is rather poor.

But, the reason I'm suggesting this is if anyone might be interested in a possible 'what-if', mebbe a model decorated along the lines of being deployed in a squadron alongside HE 115's.

If anyone wants to get a copy, I got mine off Alibris, and the article in question is on page 41, along with 2-view.

Sounds interesting, but also a microcosiism of what was wrong with German weapons development, far too much time, money and resources spent on marginal or worthless projects

Actually, such a bomber would have come in pretty handy in the Aegean island campaigns.

I realize that, even though I can't understand much of the German text.

I was simply suggesting a possible what-if model for, say, a diorama.

If I had a way to scan in the drawing, you might see what I was talking about, or trying to.

O, earlier in the book, there is a DO 217 G, which is an E1 on floats, with the 801 engines.
