Can anyone suggest a good technical book or website for info on the BGC?

    Medic,
You tried the Wheels & Tracks series?
    here
Can't remember specifics offhand, but it's a good starting point.

    Regards,

I've been looking around and have been amazed at being totally unable to find a really good, in-depth source about the Carrier.

Plenty of skimpy one-page stuff, but for such a widely-used pice of kit, nothing really satisfactory.....

Sounds like someone needs to write a book on them then!

I was very interested indeed to see two of these strange vehicles up-close and in running order at the Arnhem commemorations. The V8 Ford engines were extremely quiet and the driver demonstrated how to turn the Carrier 'on a sixpence' by locking one track.

Yet again, for such a ubiquitous vehicle, I wondered why so little info is available.....

But apparently if you try a quick turn at speed it's easy to loose a track....
Have seen a workshop manual for them at last...

Ahhh - that explains why the driver was executing a fairly gentle turn on the track running alongside Ginkel Heath.... ;)

Many thanks for the link, figjam ! [IMG]

It has a lot of useful information and fills in a lot of gaps in my ( very patchy ) Bren Carrier knowledge.

Go here http://www.universalcarrier.org/index.html then investigate their links.

There's enough info to get you started.
