    US has provided Egypt around $1.3 billion per year for several years already. Now that is clear that Egypt will not be what most Westerners wanted it to be, why are MY tax dallors still providing the aid? Now Egypt has EVERY RIGHT to determine its future, but US has every right to stop the aid.

    How is it that we are only threating to cut the aid. STOP it now. We do not know if Egypt will even be freindly to us. In fact we should be focusing on how to disable some of the equipment there. Today on CNN, even liberal Fareed Zakaria showed concern how the Egyptian STATE RAN news paper is already printing anti American cartoons. And the show trials on the aid workers, does Egypt have nothing else to worry about except the aid workers? Nothing but the begining of Anti American rhetoric. It seems to be the popular thing to do in Muslim countries.

    The Islamo-fascists have won the election by a landslide but they don't control the military. After making the mistake not to support Mubarak, we better give his fellow generals a chance to turn the situation around.

    By the way, the $1.3 billion military aid are the least of their financial problems. Tourists are already avoiding Egypt and that's hurting them a great deal more. No need for governments to do anything when the free markets are already on it. :)

    Agree. But if the Generals are running Egypt, why then the show trials and the Anti American rhetoric in State run media papers?
    Personally I do not believe the millitary will hold on because the brother hood and others will take to the streets and then what? Millitary fighting the people, like in Syria.

    I've wondered about this for years. We have been paying not only Egypt but many countries of questionable repute Billions of dollars every year as a form of 'grant money'. To me it is nothing more than the continued practice of extortion that goes back Centuries to and possibly before, the Barbary Coast piracy.
    Here is one list that attempts to show where some of our money goes;
    U.S. Foreign Aid Summary

    Curiously we also give billions of dollars a year by the way of 'aid' in the form of 'food and Humanitarian supplies' to such Countries as North Korea?
    Who says "You can't buy friends"?

    With so many billions and trillions over the years. Was it worth it? Now, I am not talking about food aid, medical, humanitarian, etc.
    And Israel I dont have a problem with. With out US aid I don't believe Israel would be able to survive, not because they don't have a well trained army, just simply because they need the US economy to help to sustain against prolonged foreigh aggression, similiar to Britain needing US in WW2.

    Yep or we would all be speaking German now... Have a look back at the square demonstrations in Cairo last year...See those tanks...they are US tanks...those gas cannistors and bullets are American supplied...Now ask the uneducatied Egyptian peasant what aid he actually sees or has seen in the last few years...switch to Muraback and see what aid he and his family have seen in the last few years..and the generals supporting him...Now ask the peasant the question in the square what aid America has supplied Egypt and for what reasons? Perception? And no I'm not blaming anyone...The rubber bullets were British...Cameron marched into the square and held hands with a small boy...proclaiming freedom and justice..while around him and on same plane were all the main British arms manufacturers we have in this country...on route to Bharain on their spring tour...Switch to Libya...Tripoli airport...on display at time of Gadafi thretening all and sundry...West saying were on our way to help...Sniper rifles from Britain on display in nice glass cabinets..Some removed by Gadaffis killers...just borrowed you understand...ask the Libyans where their aid in Gadaffis time from the UK went. Not our fault of course we just supply the money and things that do things...we can't dictate how a dictator uses our money or kit...can we....well of course we bloody well can.

    God that's what I was thinking and actually had written down something similar. Just one example, We sent "Aid" to Haiti after one of their earthquakes and before things like water and tents could be delivered to those who needed it a local government honcho declared he needed to collect a "Fee or Tax" on them. Graft takes a large share (my guess), but those who receive the goods do see the "From or Made in the USA" or Britain, or France. It does gall me at times to see the amount we Donate, Grant, Give, Lend without interest, and do for those who like us, hate us or simply tolerate us in an apparent attempt at appeasement.
