    Title: "To the Bitter End"
    Author: Rolf Hinze
    Pub.: Helion

I picked up this book earlier this year through Military Book Club to have a reference for the later Ostfront actions of WWII from the German perspective. Subtitled, "The Final Battles of Army Groups North Ukraine, A, and Center--Ostfront 1944-45", the book is very well-written and well-researched. It does read a bit dryly at times, but fortunately there is some anecdotal information to go with the dry facts. I was hoping to find more info in here on the tragedy of the Oder Pocket, but came up a bit wanting. Festung Breslau is covered, however. The Russian action is also detailed in good scholarly fashion.

This book has German situation/battle maps and a light scattering of effective illustrations. There is no index, which I found frustrating, if one needs to cross-refer for research especially.

I'd recommend this book for the WWII German Ostfront student as an interesting reference for the last battles.

The author covers the Russian side of things as well, so you get a rounded idea of what's going on. Some of the text is dry going--perhaps the technicalities of translation--but there is good anecdotal material as well.

"To the Bitter End' has a good sprinkling of relevant photos, and the situation maps are German. This book does not have an index, which would greatly aid cross-reference.

This is a professionally done book of special interest to Ostfront students/writers/researchers.
