I'm not worried about another sneak attack. I am worried about the present make up of the new Govt. 17 members of which are near out right atrocity and revisionist buggers. The Economist magazine of Last Month ran a good story on the Japanese Prime Minister and his new government. If you can get a copy I'd advise a read. The problems this can cause with both Koreas and others could be diplomatically and even where China is concerned militarilly immense. America needs to keep its eye firmly on the ball in this area. WW2 Apoligist revisionists are as dangerous in Asia as any who run websites in Europe and USA on Nazi revisionism...These guys in this govt have a lot more clout. Japan PM vows new statement on WWII
I can see where you're coming from...i think the US has seen this coming for a while now...Personally, i think the US will advise, plead and then threaten Japan (non-militarily) to "pull its head in"...and theres a good chance Japan will be too proud and paranoid to listen...This is where the US will cut it loose...
Must say the recent declarations on fascism by Mr. Berlusconi worry me more as he's much closer to home. Revisionism is bad, and negationism opens the way to making the same mistakes again as it creates a moral ambiguity where the early signs, that can be more easily corrected, are not acted on. But IMO keeping throwing the past generation's actions in their faces is just asking for it, people have pride, "and so what?" is the less damaging reaction you are going to get, "it didn't happen the way you say" is just round the corner , it's very easy to punch holes into an "black and white" version of history by focusing on some detail, and once a you get a breach he negationists have it made.
Who said it does. Read again...The goverment of Japan are on the verge of changing the story of their involvement in ww2. As a ww2 forum and a member how does that make you feel? No one is saying they are a threat to the US or its allies. What they are trying to do is a David Irving on the history of ww2.

At the local level there seems to be a resurg in this. I wonder how much of the national level stuff is in reaction to this? For instance the Japanese government bought those island under contention to prevent the Tokyo government (I think) from buying them because it was headed by .... not sure what term to use ... those who would have used the islands to make political statements especially to the Chinese. Of course the Chinese got upset anyway....
