Who can identify these photograph markings for me ?

They are probably Russian or Ukrainian from 1942.

    Sure.
Top one in English "Removed from registration" or "Discarded from inventory"
    "Snyato s Uchota"

It's hard to read, and could be a differnt meaning, what kind of item is this?

Most interesting. Thanks a lot. These are printed on the back of pictures representing German officers.

    You are welcome.
The bottom one is very faded, I can't quite make it out.
    It's Russian, not Ukrainian though.

Maybe you can read the second part better now?

Could the translation of the first part also mean "declassified"? I suspect the picture came from old Russian files.

Within the oval, the root of the first word means something like "specification" but since the last part of the word is obscured it could have several alternate meanings - perhaps unspecified or unclassified or specified a certain way - the latter part of the word determines the exact meaning, but it's faded away.

The lower part is an abbreviation for "inventory" followed by a number penciled in script. 6468

My wife thinks it was part of an archive, either a military/government office or just a museum and as Freebird says, the item has been removed from inventory.

Excellent, so this apprears to be an inventory numbers which confirms the Russian origin. Thanks a lot to both of you .
