Hello, If anyone can recommend any sources for WWII Soviet Air Units it would be greatly appreciated, websites or books are acceptable.
I thought I had better references than these... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_army_(Soviet_Union) http://www.airpages.ru/ru/vvs1.shtml
I still can not find what I am looking for. Meantime: May 1945 Red Army Air Force Order of Battle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Air_Forces_Order_of_Battle_1_May_1945
You can also look at this, particularly at the suggestions for further reading. http://www.soviethammer.net/blog/835641-wwii-air-force-of-soviet-union/
You might want to look through the USAF Historical studies; http://www.afhra.af.mil/studies/numberedusafhistoricalstudies151-200.asp #'s 153, 154 & 155 concern the early years of the German air force and Russia. I haven't read these but there may be some info in there.
Thank you guys but I was hoping for more information about individual regiments. More something along these lines Link:http://world-war-2.wikia.com/wiki/69th_IAP
not to be rude but your question is somewhat vague. are you interested in numbers of regiments? personnel ? structure of units? fair warning : your best sources are going to be in Russian ! (often times an online translator can be helpful--does not work with every webpage.) if you want a whole book dedicated to one regiment then I recommend : Dragons on bird wings The Combat History of the 812th Fighter Air Regiment by Vlad Antipov and Igor Utkin (english translation by James Gebhardt) ISBN 0-9780696-0-9 Aviaeology is an imprint of Skygrid-Kitchener Ontario
What I mean is that in a similar manner to how you can find many websites about lets say German Panzer Divisions, and then you click a few links to find an individual panzer division page with information about the commanders, unit history, combat served, etc of that division. So yes things like the book you referred are excellent, information about singular regiments.
You could always go an aircraft forum like this and ask. http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/index.php they are more specialized in this topic.
and that would be an excellent place to go for specific questions to be answered. (I am a member there if you want to look me up) I get the impression he is looking to "open the flood gates" of knowledge in that area.
