After a check of the units who took part in the massacre of Putten and /or deportation this is what I got. -Fallschirm-Panzer-Division 1 Hermann Göring : they surrounded the town of Putten and made sure no-one escaped. -German and Dutch SS units burnt 105 houses shot 7 (including one woman) and deported 661 men . ( 58 were freed ,13 escaped by jumping from the train) . Only 48 deported returned. http://www.isgeschiedenis.nl/nieuws/historisch/razzia-putten-tweede-wereldoorlog/ https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razzia_van_Putten https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zEJwkLAgOM
Agreed. And am I correct in stating that the Wehrmacht raped and pillaged their way across Russia? Which is why the Russians who went into Berlin were so brutal in their reprisals against German women?
Russian women were regarded as "Untermenschen", so they weren't raped regularly. Russian soldiers had enough other reasons to rape german women. One of them was the high standard of living in Germany compared to where they come from. They just didn't understand what they wanted in poor Russia and why they killed so many civilians for no good reasons. I feel sorry for this veterans, i am sure they gave their best and had an incredible hard time during the war. And then they had to hear that they followed a criminal isn't easy at all. And Stalin wasn't a nice guy too, which makes it easier to keep their old attitudes and stick to their lies.
