    A friend has asked me:

"I was trying to find out the name of the town or village in Holland where there is a memorial to the 52nd Div. The memorial is of a little Dutch girl giving a Scottish piper ( at ease ) a bunch of flowers."

I don't know this one - any ideas?

    G'day Sommecourt

The memorial you are refering to is in Schijndel. But this memorial is for the 51st Scottish. It is called "High Division Memorial" and is on the Rooiseweg in Schijndel. A plaque in Dutch says
"On the 23rd of October 1944 the 51st Highland Division opened the attack on this spot. On the 7th of November the enemy was driven away of an area 800m square South of the Muese( Maas) between Schijndel and Geertruidenberg. It cost the life of 44 officers and 630 All ranks. 2600 enemy soldiers were taken prisoner."
Also in Gaelic the Highland motto
"On the day of Battle Friends are Good"

http://www.oorlogsmonumenten.nl/zoek.phtml?search=empty Goto Zoeken =search and type " Schots " in the 2nd bar and enter, the 4th memorial mentioned is it ( all very complicated in Holland) Click on Monument and you have the photo
I hope this link works :D It is a Dutch ;) site with all the warmemorials mentioned and some with photo as with this monument.
If you need to know more just ask away

    Cheers Popski

Thanks guys - no wonder I couldn't find it, if it was 51st HD. The Dutch isn't too bad; I am in Flanders twice a week, every week, and Flemish isn't that different; although I still have problems trying to speak it!

    Thanks again!

    G'day Sommecourt

Glad to be of help. The Flemish is a very different Dutch than I speak, even I have difficulty with understanding it. So we both can speak Flemish to eachother and both can speak it equaly good (or bad).
