with "only" 1,358 VC's awarded since the capture of the russian guns you'd think all medals are well-documented. btw, i grew up thinking that the source of the metal for forging the crosses were the russian guns overrun by the light brigade at balaclava. but the wiki says tradition has it they were taken during the siege of sevastopol, even from two chinese made cannons taken from the russians.
