How about Thin Red Line? I don't think I saw that one on the list. Thats a good movie... but they portraited the japanese soldiers a bit to scared and helpless if I can call it that...
I've seen a black and white version of Dunkirk from 1955, indeed. It was quite a realistic movie, when it comes to that age. Very good movie, is it on the list already?
it was a documentry told through the eyes of who were there and it includes a scene where ss troops masacre british soldiers
There were several incidents of SS-troops massacring surrendered British troops in France, 1940. This was just the way the Waffen-SS was trained to behave, and the sadistic ways these brutal act were carried out in shows clearly that the Waffen-SS was a brainwashed collection of brutes more than anything else.
Even the 1st SS motorized regiment "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler" existed already, back in 1940. It was part of Army Group B (von Bock), invading the Netherlands. Only later was this unit expanded to the full size of the 1st SS Panzer Division.
Band of Brothers! For all who don't know about it, its a HBO miniseries. I'm surprised that wasn't included. Its quite entertaining and realistic at the same time, and potrays the human element very well.
Band of Brothers is a good show, but I would rather see more Eastern Front movies and shows. Thats where all the big fighting took place.
Yep, there is a big gap there. At least 'the Last Battle' by Cornelius Ryan needs to be filmed, to finish the trilogy with The Longest Day and A Bridge too Far. ANd something about Kursk or Kharkov would be nice...
no offense to the americans but hollywood always makes films about the americans and sometimes other countries but ive hardly seen any films about the russians
Probably because the Soviets where just as murderous as the Germans. Almost all of the WWII movies are made in the US, and I'm sure there aren't to many Americans other than the ones of this forum that want to see a movie about the Russians. Plus, the lasting tensions of the Cold war.
Yeah, what was with that? The main character sounded more British than Russian, but then again, I know Russian and it is not a pretty language, even if it is only an accent. Like they say, Some one could say the worst thing to you in French and unless you know French, it sounds like a compliment, but say the nicest thing in German or Russian, and you likely to get punched in the face. I hope that makes sense.
