    Video Update
This thread started March 9, 2006 when I posted a link to a video about this event. This 30 minute film was created by Doug Harvey as a tribute to his father, Rear Gunner, Sam Harvey and the crew of Lancaster A2-C. Working with a small budget, Doug created a wonderful tribute and an important historical document.

The original link to the video no longer works so I have re-posted the video in 3 parts here:

Someone has created a 514 Squadron FaceBook page. It has some excellent images of Lancasters in flight.

514 of course is the squadron important to this thread.

    Hello everyone- another July 28th.

Yes my wife and I still enjoy life in our own home. I'm sure modern day health care contributes largely to this.
Likewise modern communication allows the internet to keep coming up with pleasant surprises along with many memories.

Again my best wishes to all you folks who have helped us enjoy this wonderful thread introduced by our son in 2006.

    Cheers until next time

My deepest thoughts were with you on the 28th July . Unfortunately I had no internet access and was on a holiday near Lorient, France , so I'm two days late for the anniversary. However whether I post it or not ,the 28th date is and always will be engraved in my memory and I hereby want to thank all Bomber Command veterans :poppy:

    Greetings from Canada,

Those of you who have been following this thread will know that my Dad, Alex Campbell, pilot of Lancaster A2-C, was shot down over France, July 28, 1944. Thanks to Skipper and other contributors to this forum we have been able to put together all of the details about this event.

If you are new to this thread it is worth reviewing from the beginning - an amazing document.

Recently, Michel and Isabelle, residents of France visited us. They farm the fields where dad's Lanc crashed and wanted to meet him, as part of this event we visited the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario.

We were treated to the sight of the Lancaster returning to the airfield, landing and taxiing up to the hangar - there are only two Lancs still flying - this is one of them.
The aircrew invited us aboard, Dad moved into the pilot's seat and in this video he recounts his dramatic escape from the burning aircraft.

Skipper, is it possible to add these links to the very first post in this thread to replace the Google Video link?

I was watching the History Channel last night, a story about downed airmen in France and, lo and behold, guess who appears? Our esteemed Mr. Campbell of course! Well done, sir. I was sad we didn't get to hear your story though.

    Cheers,
    Don

It's high time I made an appearance on this thread. First off I join so many of you in congratulating a most deserving "Skipper". I make no attempt to list your
accomplishments. We are allowed just so much time on this planet. Well done Skipper.
How nice it is to see the names and faces of our Forum friends. You have contributed so much in confirming and correcting many details in my story. This we have learned from the internet since Wayne introduced this thread back in 2006 I believe.
Big Daddy I'm glad to see you're enjoying this story. We hope to keep it going.
My typing and writing skills seem to be slipping but still enjoy being alive.

    Cheers to you all.

Hello all- Yes back again. It seems tardiness has become a habit. I can expect a reprimand. However an ice storm
engulfed our part of Canada and left us without power for several days. Some thousands are still without in Toronto
    and the Maritimes.
We are still thankful to be alive, not forgetting those who helped us to survive. Well I shall say Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year Don't think I'll ever tire of saying that.

Bye for now and cheers Alex Campbell Skipper of Lancaster A2 C
