I crossed this question in other forum and because I think here I can find some experts I decided to put it here too. What is this tank in these pictures? yeah indeed quite strange. The tracks look very russian to me, but then the hull might have been a Mark IV. Don't know whether the germans did these things though?
Are you sure the 4th picture is of the same tank? the tracks look very different to the one in the 3rd pic. In the 3rd pic, the tracks look kinda German... I assume the film is German - when was it made? *ahem* 1959! here is a plot synopsis... Bernhard Wicki's directorial debut, this is an excellent little film with little plot and no known names on the roster. In the final days of World War II, German teenagers join the Nazi army in a futile attempt to stop the enemy invasion. A sympathetic officer places the boys as guards of a seemingly unimportant bridge. The seven youths are thrown into battle when American tanks unexpectedly appear and try to cross the bridge. In that other forum someone suggest that it is just a car with fiberclass outer shell (running out of proper words now). IMDB found two movies with that name, one made 1949, other 1959. I believe these pictures are taken from latter movie.
The tanks used in "Die Brücke" are not tanks. They were made of wood and cardboard, nothing more. It said that on the DVD I've seen of this movie. What Notmi said is probably right; I don't know for sure but it seems likely that they were cars.
Well, whatever it is, if they ever make an award for silliest movie tank, then I would like to nominate this one.
The tanks are indeed cars, people; if you look carefully at the second photograph, you can see the tires inboard of the tracks.
This movie did not have much of a budget, as you may have figured. It was good though, simple, straightforward, gripping, horrible. An anti-war movie in its own right, and I'd recommend it to anyone (I think I've done so throughout this forum ).
Yeah, well, it was after all a car with cardboard and wood strapped to it. The turret is more reminiscent of an M10 to me.
