Germany and France are both densely populated, highly industrialized and developed countries. I think the US would remain neutral because it couldn't afford to lose the market.
The US would remain nuetral but I don' think that is why. I think the US would be nuetral because France and Germany are both allier, who are just not as close as Britain but still close. I menioned that although Bush is refusing to meet with the leaders of Mexico and Spain (Apart from the spanish royal family which has no authority so didn't deserve a news headline) he met with Chirac who was at least ten times more anti-Bush and war then both of them put together. Lets pretend the UK dissapeared and it was England Ireland Scotland and Wales again ok. If Wales went to war with Scotland then Ireland which was historically on good terms with both would remain nuetral even if it was a bit friendlier with Wales.
If you wish to use this argument as to why the US would not back Britain, Then yes you are probably right, however, the similar argument would appliy to France, Britain and Germany. I can't see either country invading the other, hence no aliance is required. This shoots your reasoning for putting Germany and France above U.K. out of the water.
Frankly, I don't see how any list of the top ten armies could possibly not include the army of the Galactic Empire. Especially if Lord Vader is in command (although General Veers would be a perfectly acceptable substitute...).
But the Imperial Army doesn't qualify as the army of today, because it existed a long long time ago. Gotcha on the same detail twice! You need to stay awake Corp!
I guess I was just thinking about the ancient Franco-British rivalries while typing it, so Britain would get back it's former rank. Actually come to think of it I think France and Germany are about equal, the German army maybe better but the French Airforce and Navy is better then what Germany has.
Ancient troubles may still play in people's heads today, but they don't exactly play in European politics. With the European Union firmly established it is incredibly hard to see any of the nations participating in to go to war with each other. So I wouldn't give any weight to the strength or weakness of military alliances within Europe.
Indeed, I believe Roel is right in stating that there is nearly no likelihood of an internal war in the European Union. That is one of the strong points of the Union.
That should read: "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." Got *you* on the details, Roel! Besides, since the Imperial Army exists today on both the big and small screens, my point is still valid! 8)
I guess I was mixing it up with the Looney Tunes spoof, which had it read "A long long long long long long long long long long long long time ago, in a galaxy far far far far far far far far far far far away..."
Yeah... Pity it's been so long since I saw that movie. It was hilarious. Anyway, about those armies of today...
All the cartoons you saw compiled in that film were the work of director Chuck Jones. The work of Friz Freleng was showcased in "The Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie", which is also a real hoot.
Yes, and that is an incredible achievement. It's somewhat ironic to see that europe's concuring nation state system that is responsible for the rise of european power in the early modern ages, also nearly managed to destroy the whole continent.
...and to cause the center of all modern developments to lose its world supremacy to one of its colonies!
As long as humans rule the world, there will always be the possibility of another European war, however remote that chance might seem to us now.
Anything is possible it is a question of likelyhood. England could possibly win the world cup, however, the likelyhood is ...........
Good point. However, the factors that can make a war more or less likely change constantly. What is highly improbable today can become a near certainty tomorrow with astonishing speed sometimes.
