was that a good or bad point and who for?

By the way, try doing a I feel lucky google search on french military victories

Worst Features. Russian attrocities as they advanced against any civilians they came across. Which funnily enough is the same for Germany going the other way 2 years before.

Worst. US Marine attrocities against the Japanese. Ears and teeth collecting etc.

Best? Probably heroic defences against all the odds, Bastogne, Arnhem, Tobruk, Stalingrad. I'm sure the Germans also had many but none spring immedaitly to mind.

I didn't explain this very well. I meant something like this:

Finnish soldiers: brave, loyal and tough if treated okay (no snobbish officers), complain a lot

    Oh yes, it's hilarious....

People like the jackass who has written that page(who of course has proven his courage in numerous battles) should be thankfull for the french, because since it has become politically incorrect to make such jokes about blacks, jews or others they have found the french to make their racist jokes about.

The Americans should be thankfull to the French, Dutch and Spansh. If it wasn't these nations they would still ve rule by the British.

Don't take offence it is not meant to be taken seriously.

To those with selective and superificial historical knowledge it's easy to say the French never won a war, especially those who are hostile towards the French for some reason or other. However, once you dig just a little deeper, you'll see it's a ridiculous distortion of history this guy is coughing up. What I liked about it was mostly the way he put things. :D

Let us consider for a moment that it took an Alliance of all of Europe, including the two richest countries in the world at the time, to defeat Louis XIV in the War of Spanish Succession. Let us consider that it took 18 years and a similar alliance, plus a number of disastruously failed foreign policy decisions by Napoleon, to bring down France after the French revolution. Let us consider the Karolingian Empire (though this wasn't French at all), or the way the French defeated King John in 1214. Let us consider the crushing defeat delivered upon the Dutch in 1672, on the English in 1429, on Charles the Bold of Burgundy, on Germany in 1915... We know it's all untrue, and judging the source (www.albinoblacksheep.com) I think and hope that few people will take it very seriously.

No Thanks we don't want them, after all Canada gave them a kicking.

We could also say they only did so well in WW1 and WW2 after we softened the German up.

If it weren't for the French and their revolution, where would the world be now? No, I do not adhere to the theory of the Atlantic revolution...

By the way, it was the Dutch who first lent money to the American states while they were in revolt. Bankers of the world, woo! :D

Could be, but that's really stretching it, since late in the 19th century we were overtaken by the British. Somewhere in the 1880s you guys finally had a higher GDP per capita than we did! :D

    Anyway, this is terribly off-topic...

Sorry, not meant to be offensive, just funny. Obviously it's distorted and incorrect, but that's not the point. Anyone here should know that its historically rubbish.

But I digress and seem to have hijacked the thread!

Roel, this is true , but the french still have lost their share of wars . In my opinion , if they took on Germany 1 on 1 in WW1 they would have lost , they lost in WW2 , the indo-china war , but they have had successes , the french have a good army , but there almost always lead by leaders that use outdated and bad tactics .
