The germans modified those to carry a 150mm howitzer. They were originally intended as a SP anti-tank gun, but Hitler ordered them to be used as SP field artillery.

I have to admit though, I do like the Ram/Kangaroo.
Fully-tracked, armoured top (at least it seems to have in the photos I've seen) and a turret-mounted mg in the front.

    Very cool. :smok:

    Hello,

You are mixing the Lorraine 37L supply tractor with the Lorraine 38L APC.
The Germans used both of them but kept the Lorraine 38L as it was.

    Lorraine 37L(f) Schlepper
    • Gefechtsfeld-Versorgungsfahrzeug Lorraine 37L (f)
    • Großer Funk- & Beobachtungspanzer Lorraine (f) (30 produced)
    • 4.7cm Pak181(f) auf Geschützwagen Lorraine (this is a French production in fact, not a German conversion)
    • Munitionstransportkraftwagen auf Lorraine Schlepper
    • 7.5cm Pak40/1 auf Geschützwagen Lorraine "Marder I (SdKfz 135)"
    • 10.5cm leFH18 auf Geschützwagen Lorraine (24 produced), Wespe-equivalent based on Lorraine 37L
    • 12.2cm Kanone (r) auf Geschützwagen Lorraine (f) (1 produced)
    • 15cm sFH13/1 auf Geschützwagen Lorraine (102 produced), Hummel-equivalent based on Lorraine 37L

    Lorraine 38L(f) (SPW)

ok , everyone seems to be contracticting my statements , so can we agree with this ? It was the first "modern looking" APC , it was the forerunner of the modern apc , other apc's were not official equipment , they were used by whoever could find them , and there varied to much to be considered official , i think i should have named the post first 'official Apc"

I agree that it was the ancestor of modern APCs as we know them today.

    Regards,

The Canadians used kangaroos all around Normandy to carry troops into battle whilst under small arms fire.

Just reading some random book and they say that the Durham Light Infantry were issued with Kangaroos in January 45 to be used in crossing the Rhine and the push for Hamburg. They seemed very impressed with them.
