I don't know if this has been discussed before, but here is my first poll. Who do you think was the best Soviet General of WW2? -We are talking field commanders here, no other branches but the Red Army.
Za, It dont matter anyway, as your Generals just throw waves of men at the enemy... I voted for Chuikov...
Sorry Comrade Stalin! Please dont send the Boys from the NKVD round... I will be good RED baron from now on...
I voted for Zhúkov, but the absence of Vasilievski is like leaving out Montgomery out of a "best British generals thread"…
Where are the other Marshals? The absence of Vasilevky from this list is glaring. </font>[/QUOTE]I knew I was forgetting somebody, I guess the persom I left out was Aleksadr Vasilievsky, my stupid mistake. Sorry about that.
Choices, choices. So, which one of these fellows made the best drinking buddy? I think that's how we should rate them since it wasn't specified.
Unfortunately after years of research on German warfare and generals not very good at this, Zhukov is good, Chuikov as well, and and...even Stalin , I think, could be counted in here?! Anyway, I think even if Zhukov was the one who could say "No!" to Stalin, at the moment I choose Chuikov. Well, just my choice at the moment, it could be someone else next year...
Rokossovsky, wasn't he Ukrainian or Belurussian, I think, anyway from what I read he was an excellent general but didn't get the recognition he desereved as he was not from Russia? So my vote is for Rokossovsky!
From what I remember, Konstantin Rokossovsky grew up in Warsaw. He was born in a little town, something like Volkye Luki, or Volikiye Luki. So his father was Polish and his mother was Russian.
My vote is for Zhukov, I mean he never lost. He saved them at Stalingrad and Moscow and fought his way into Berlin.
More dead thread raising? This must be a new sport! On Zhukov, his performance at Operation Mars and at Sellow Heights was not what I would call stellar, but...
At the Battle of Berlin Zhukov lost only 4.1% of his men, while Konev's forces, who faced weaker German opposition, lost 5% and at the same time Rodion Malinovsky lost almost 8% at the Battle of Budapest. Zhukov gets my vote.... Oh and what poll? I dont see anything!
