Its an amusing story anyways, no need to get bogged down with historical facts and what have you.

The Russians had trained legions of dogs (the so called Tank-Fighting Dogs) to run under German tanks with an AT mine strapped to their back. Needless to say, their are plenty of accounts of those dogs running back to hide under a Russian tank or vehicle. PETA would have a field day if the Russkies tried that again :D

I know, its not the best picture, but its all I could find. :D

Last time I checked we were at least trying to have reasonably serious discussions about tanks on here...

We have discussed these before, here's the topic.

Hey Zhukov, if this forum would prefer tall tales over historical facts then what's the point of sources anyway? We could all just go back to claiming that if Germany had had 100,000 Tigers they would have won the war. ;)

If germany had 100,000 Tigers the country would have run out of fuel on the drive from Berlin to Warsaw.

    Oye!!

That would have been a tough job, teaching them big old felines to run under a tank. Mebbe spray 'crunchy fish & chicken kibbles' on it first, or chuck a rabbit under it.

I can't even get my cats herded down to the basement when I am trying to do a little painting. But trying to get a large predator under a loud friggin machine. Heck, I can't even get Bono in the car to go to the veteranarian.

WELL rots of ruck Ivan :D

I dunno, I woulda volunteered for another job.

Just how many bags of kibbles would it take to feed those 100,000 big kittys? LOL

Eyuck and how many bags of cat box litter..

Animals had a rough war, one way or another. The French apparently used sheep to clear minefields (still 'better' than the Russian method of using criminals or Polish people I suppose)

The Germans as you know relied on horses to carry their artillery and often as pack animals too. Millions were used, and obviously many died during the war, for all sorts of reasons (in Stalingrad they were eaten!). Though the Germans did provide their horses with gas masks... :D

Back on topic, I recieved a parcel from Merlin this morning - a book (well, novel. Just to be clear that this is fiction) in which a Tiger out in North Africa was killed by the crew of a Grant.

First the Grant shoots at the belly of the Tiger as it rears up over an obsticle. The shot goes in the belly, and out the turret cupola! The Grant then legs it, and finds a position where it can fire at the Tiger without the Tiger firing back (as it cannot depress it's gun enough). A few shots at the frontal armour do nowt. So they attack it like this:

One crew member stays in the Grant, shooting HE at the Tiger to keep it occupied.
Two crew members sneek up behind the Tiger, place an open petrol can, 2 HE rounds and a phosphorus grenade on the engine deck. These go 'boom', which burns the engine, which brews up the Tiger.

    :D

    I love fiction!

Anyway, Jap officers carried swords but sometimes it is not katanas but modelled after European officer swords.

Oh i believe that Jap story all right, it is possible, not impossible and well,it is entertaining all right but i think we're all being silly arguing against some thing happening 50 tyears ago as if our lives depend on it. Danyel, relax mate.
