Include what country you are talking about (because many countries have distinct music which may lead to different hits than other countries.
1. Dire Straits, Brit 2. Eurythmics, Brit 3. Tangerine Dream, German (add them for 60's and 70's too!) 4. Pink Floyd, Brit (add for 60's, 70's and 90's too) 5. Five Hand Reel, Scots folk band, had folk like Dick Gaughin in it as well as "visits" from the Silly Wizard crew. Not bands but singers Nils Lofgrin , US Joan Armatrading, Brit and thats it from me!! What a boring fart I am
Dire Straits (UK) is my favorite. Also like: Stray Cats (USA) ZZ TOP (USA) Alabama (USA) Blondie (USA) Bob Seager & The Silver Bullet Band (USA) Charlie Daniels Band (USA) Pink Floyd (UK)
Well from my perspective at the time I would say, in no particular order: Tears for Fears - UK Talking Heads - UK Dire Straights - UK U2 - Ireland Deff Leppard - UK The Eurythmics - UK INXS - Australia The Cure - UK Genesis - UK KISS - USA Really, this question is so subjective, it would be better to ask for the top 30 bands!
Although they had roots in the seventies,I think the B52's are very underrated. The Cure are good too!
Talking Heads aren't British, they're Americans ( New York ). Mine, in no particular order ... - Queensryche, US - Depeche Mode, UK - Kraftwerk, BRD - Dollie, Norway - Van Halen, US - Accept, BRD - The Mission, UK - U2, Ireland - Golden Earring, The Netherlands ... Just kidding! MUHAHAHAHAHA! MUHAHAHAHAHA!
Peter Gabriel UK Rush US David Bowie UK Depeche Mode UK Clawfinger Norway Rammstein Germany Victory Germany Cabaret Voltaire UK Sisters of Mercy UK Killing Joke UK Nirvana US
1979 is when music died. I'm still waiting for it to recovery but all I hear on the radio now is auditory diarrhea which is attempting to masquerade as "music" (and doing a damn poor job of it, too). So the answer to your question is "there are no good bands of the 1980s". But to throw in a few "honorable mentions we have: Pure Prairie League (with Vince Gill) and Poco. Some of Don Henley's solo stuff was good too.
