Anyone here an A&A fan? If you've never heard of it (which I think most of you have) check out www.axisandallies.org
Yep, both board game and computer game. Basically this game, far more so than Risk introduced to wargames and is responsible for a large amount of my disposable income disappearing in earlier years. It's pretty simplistic, but good fun.
I'm waiting for my A&A set to get to me, its in the mail I believe. I would definenlty be up for a game when it got here. I have A&A Original and A&A Europe, either is good. I also have a A&A varient made by Eric Grenier called WWII in the West. The map is 4'x4':
This game is completely awesome. Unfortunately most people I know either can't be arsed into playing WW2 games or think the game takes too long, so I'm not getting much action.
I know what you mean. Sometimes I can get a rookie to play because I tell him it won't take but 2 hours at the most. What I don't tell him is that I will beat him in those 2 hours.
I play with some mates every other weekend or so - lots of hot chocolate, normal chocolate, and intensive playing throughout the night  Anybody else here ever won as Axis? Strategies?
I used to play A&A on a regular basis. That is until the guy I played with moved to Arizona.Haven't played since. How are the newer versions of the game?
Depends on which version.. "Euro", "Global", or "Pacific"... I know the updated Global version has destroyers as a new unit.
The "real" game (all those theatre-centered versions are just milking the concept) in its 2004 version is much improved, at least in my opinion. It is more realistic and detailed, and it looks a lot better too.
Panzerman, I have won many times with the Axis, but special care had to be taken. www.axisandallies.org is the best place for strategys and then some.
The European version is a nice addition. This time, even a newbie can win with Germany, provided they can break through the enormous number of pieces provided to the Soviets. The Germans are in a postition that they can seriously weaken any Allied strategy on the first turn. I have added Italy to my set, and acts as change up so that the order is Germany, Russia, Great Britain, Italy, and then the US.
