    Game 6

It is August 1942 and something is definitely afoot between my country, Palethaon, and the neighbouring country of Tudyera. For decades we have tolerated their occupation of certain provinces in the west that belong to us, to Palethaon, yet have been lost in the last war. For decades we have tolerated not only their military occupation of the region, but also their exploitation of our people and their disrespect for what is rightfully ours. Now, a shift has occurred in the government of my country; the Nationalist Party has come to power and the new President is a strong man prepared to correct the mistakes of the past. The people, outraged, want war. The army, unoccupied at the moment, wants war. Now, the leaders want war, and war will come.

It is unlikely that the Tudyeran government failed to notice the fundamental political changes in my country. Therefore we are assuming they will ready their armies soon, in order to defend their unsupported claim on our lands by force. We must be speedy if we want to be successful; Tudyera has, after all, had considerable time to build up defensive positions in our provinces, and if these were to become fully prepared for our assault we may eventually meet with disaster. Our Chiefs of Staff estimate that, all things considered, it would be most expedient to attack in force next month at the latest, lest the balance swings in favour of the enemy. The time has come to ready our armed forces.

In the best of circumstances, the brave Palethaonian armies will be met with strong defensive positions manned by garrison forces; this will present a considerable barrier to our advance. In the worst case the Tudyeran line will be fully operational and manned by crack divisions, in which case an utmost effort will be required of our men. For victory in either situation, our armies will require a new, powerful Infantry Support Vehicle/Assault Gun.

Generally, this vehicle should not have to worry about tanks, as our own armoured forces and AT guns are sufficiently powerful to deal with that threat. However, it will be faced with various enemy AT guns (and possibly tanks in hull-down position) targeting it, the most powerful of which will be British-made 6pdr guns. The main purpose of this vehicle will be to take out any AT guns threatening it, and smashing any infantry opposition our infantry may encounter as they advance; hence HE capabilities must be prioritised over penetrating power by a considerable degree.

    Requirements:
    - Armament: main gun capable of delivering a powerful high explosive shell, minimal calibre 75mm, and sufficient secondary armament to deal with infantry. It is important to note that this tank will be in combat for long stretches of time, so plenty of ammunition should be carried.
    - Armour: must be able to withstand 6pdr APCBC fire up to 500 meters from the front, and carry sufficient protection against small arms and AT rifles on all sides.
    - Mobility: speed is not an issue as this vehicle will be required to advance with infantry. Ground pressure must, however, be low, to prevent problems with muddy ground and to provide some protection against AT mines.
    - Weight: vehicle must not weigh more than 30 tons.
    - A turret will be considered a plus, but is not strictly required. The important condition for adding a turret is that protection against 6pdr fire must be maintained all over the front of the tank.

Who will take up this challenge? Teams, countries, etcetera to be posted here as soon as possible so that Ricky and I can set the time limit. Thank you!

Can I just say, gentlemen, that this game has been fantastic to watch. My knowledge of tanks in very small (at best) but this game has not only been entertainig, but also quite educational. I admire all of you for having obviosuly worked so hard on your designs. I enjoy seeing the artwork of the vehicles (especially Roel's) I enjoy the creations which come from the less mainstream nations (like Japan). I enjoy the scenarios created to set the scene and objectives of the game. It's made all of this more fun to watch than the LOTR films! :D
    Thanks again :D

The more I look at this spec the more I wish I'd picked a different nation - a British AFV with more than 87 mm of armour at 30 degrees in 1942! Aaargh.
Still as sonofecthelion said, it's educational - it'll teach me not to volunteer

Oli, we're having the same issues. I think the problem is that our two nations weren't big on low, turretless Stug-ish designs, so we have to start from scratch.

I was searching for penetration of 6-pounder in the Net and somehow I bumped into this kind of info: APCBC was introduced to use in January 1943 and APC in September 1942; according to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QF_6_pdr

Therefore Palethaonian Armed Forces won't be facing 6-pounders firing APCBC ammo.

    Will the requirements be changed?

We'll just assume that the superbly up-to-date Tudyeran military has come up with its own APCBC round...

Excuse me for this inaccuracy. It would however make this game way too easy to restrict the 6pdr crews to AP ammo...
