    Not again...

Don't compare tanks like that! Absurd one vs one matches

 The comment was not meant to be entirely serious...

Blaster, the thing is, comparing tanks like that is not a good way to establish which one is best. First of all - it is impossible for us to say who would win a 1 v1 match, because we don't know the terrain and we don't know the crew. Even if those factors had been given, there are still things that "could" happen that we do not know about... The winning tank in such a fictional match still does not prove it's the best tank, because tanks can take out tanks that are better than them in every way, through luck and skill...

If you want to compare tanks, compare stats. Compare armor, compare their guns, compare their power to weight ratio, compare their weight, compare their price, compare crew comfort. Put the tank into the historical context - who was using it, and for what? Taking all this, + historical hindsight into account, we can begin to form conclusions about which tank was "best"... yet still, it is a subjective matter. The characteristics of a tank may be established objectively, while the weight we place on the different characteristics are subjective.

Yes, relax everyone... Personally i like the looks of the walker bulldog, an excellent cold-war light tank... Googling the RAM it looks like a veritable piece of poo, but i know next to nothing about it, so i cant' really decide

Don't misunderstand, of course I think there were 1 vs 1 battles (rarely)... I just don't the think the winner of such a battle conclusively determines that the tank was best, and therefore should not be used as a method of comparing tanks. Remember, in WW2, tanks never operated alone unless cut off... there was (almost) always infantry support and other tanks.

OK. I'm calmin' down now. But next time maybe try to say it in a different way or try to tell me that it isn't entirely serious.

Learning about tanks is not easy, it took me months of reading here before I felt my contributions where viable... Just remember, there is more to tanks than one vs one battles :D

Walker Bulldog - a good light tank designed at a time when the light tank was clearly not worth it any more.

RAM II - essentially an early-model Sherman (minor differences, but who's counting ;) ) with a 6pdr gun.

The M41 presumably had better performance (I'm guessing here) but IIRC both could kill the other at similar ranges.

Doubtless I will be corrected soon. ;)

No, that sounds about right to me. The M41 is only protected by about an inch of armour plate, easily vulnerable to both the MkIII and MkV 6 pounders. The Ram is protected by up to 3-3.5 inches which should be vulnerable to the M32 at most combat ranges.
