Neither documentaries nor Leonard Nemoys are authorative, but the basic historical facts are true.

That is hardly that science has disproven itself.

Mountains are formed by the movement of tectonic plates, and therefore, it is perfectly possible that the crystals have been brought up from underseas by such movements. It is not possible that it was due to a short flooding, because the crystals would take much longer to form than a year. It would also be impossible that there would exist any animals today from only two of each species, because imbreeding would have killed all the species. Deep space travel colonies would need about 100 humans to sustain the colony, assuming the breeding was systematised and controlled. Furthermore, there is not enough water to cover the mountains in the first place on Earth.

Not to be a pessimistic a**hole, but why am I getting the feeling I'm one my own here?

    Never mind

If we're looking at practicalities, there is also the little logistical problem of getting all of the animals from the Americas, Australasia etc over to the Middle East so they can board the ark...

Yeah I did Tony (did you write that?) I still don't really get it, I think it was the funky scoring thing that confused me.

You're not, but everybody seems to be quitely ignoring my posts...

Odd how we always seem to have these circular chats about Religion.

uh, prehaps if the 'known world' is basically the shore of the Med, then all animals are all the animals from... the shores of the Med. So basically... livestock!

Ignore the wierd & wonderful pics onf the ark as a boat with a lovely hut on top full of giraffes & elephants. Aside from anything else, it does not fit the description of the plans laid out in the Bible ;)

I've seen a pic of it just as a big block (that floats!!!) doesn't look anything like a boat.

If you take the instructions literally, that is what you get.

Nevertheless, it would still not be possible to make such a vessel, as well as gathering all the animals, keeping them alive and afterwards preventing inbreeding.

guys guys, let not this topic become another discussion about whether there is a God or not or if the bible is true or not.

Anyway, there can be overwhelming evidence the bible is true or there may be not.But seriously, to those who know God,we know He exist because we have experienced Him(no not a mystical session)

So for me,it's just faith and a knowledge that He's real.

For the non-believers,you will never know how honey taste like unless you have tasted it.Sure you can write that honey is bitter and give evidence....but you still won't know till you taste it.

Firstly, Noah had a considerable length of time to build the vessel in, and it is actually not all that big.

'all the animals' I have addressed, fodder is not impossible to obtain for a 40-day period, and (due to the fact that the flood did not cover the entire world, just the known world) before the second generation of animals started breeding fresh stocks would become available.

Good advice. Getting back to the original topic:

Is there actually a theory on how it actually began?
Sure there is the Big Bang, then there is the infinitly expanding vs expand/collapse/expand/collapse, but none of these, to my mind, actually are a theory on what there was before the universe existed, and how/why did it actually come to exist.

Answers on a postcard please. ;)

It is interesting that you first want to not discuss the existance of gods, and then go on to discuss it yourself.

In either case, your argumentation above is rather weak and circular.

    Ricky
Even if we consider a flood which requires more water than exists on Earth, and which only covers the known world, possible, considering that not all animals of the time were known and that many of the animals would be natural enemies of each other, I still fail to see how the concept is possible.

As for pre-universal existances, if you want to know if there was anythin in place of the universe before the universe, then it is not possible to know because the universe is there now. As mentioned above, without a universe, there is no time, so there really was no before the universe anyway.

Both these points have been answered already in this topic...

    Flood:

    Animals:

Actually this argument as written here is slightly weak, but the point is that if it is a localised flood, all they need to save are the animals they depend upon for food etc.

Should that scenario involve animals who are mutual enemies... well, there are such things as cages, or wall, or similar methods of partitioning.

[Edit: a typo and some cleaning up]

Well i don't really give two hoots on what you think.Like i said,i believe and that's that. You certainly have your right to doubt.Of course, i discussed and i admit it.But let's stop now.No one will actually change their convictions as a result of a forum debate

Still - an increase water level in the Mediteranian Sea wouldn't have catastrophic consequences, though. The Black Sea is considerably smaller than the mediteranian, and the southern coastline of the Mediteranian is low. An increase in water level due to the Black Sea running into the Mediteranian would not have increased water levels significantly, and animals - especially in the higher regions of the northen and western coastlines - would have been largely unaffected except for harbour cities.

I realise that if i had taken the "two hoots" out of the sentence,it might have been tame enough for the mods....But honestly,i think your over-reacting on this one ricky.I do not think that it's offensive or provoking from my view.I do not think it is insulting to Christian either.I'm merely stating that i don't care what he thinks in a very blunt and forceful way. :D

The other possible 'flood' that some people mention is the actual creation of the Med - settlements have been discovered at the bottom of the Med, indicating that the area was once land, and was at some point flooded...
