The Most Preferred 9mm Pistol

The 9mm Beretta's certainly not bad, the Browning Hi-Power isn't too shabby either, and there are a lot of other 9mm shooters out there. But Does anyone know which one is the most preferable overall?

 

The Hi-Power has a good reputation along with Glock, HK, Walther, S&W, Ruger, CZ, and Sig.

 

Yes, but which one's the overall winner? I know that some may be good for concealment, others just for uniform duty, but why, say, did the Pentagon replace the M1911A1 with the 9mm Beretta? Why not go with the Browning Hi-Power or some other American-made 9mm pistol?

 

Impossible to determine an overall winner, too many personal preferences involved to just flat out say "the overall best 9mm is"

On a sidenote the Beretta 9mm is manufactured in the US, it was one of the requirements of the contract that a plant be built here to make them., It is also said the one of the major deciding factors boiled down to plain old price.

The Glocks are probably the Best sellling in the US, not a researched fact, just seem to see them as plentiful as bellybuttons, The Springfield XD series is fast becoming a popular pistol (also my choice) although alot of people dont care for the polymer pistols.

 

In that case I'll change the topic to see who prefers which 9mm pistol.

my brother carries a glock on duty ..its the most but ugly ,plastic peice of crap you ever saw...his dept dumped their brownings an colts because of peoples complaints about the hammer back carrie mode ...hence i bought his hi power ....he likes his glock but boy its cheap looking ...but it aint even a lil cheap to buy...

 

I love Glocks... best pistol ever IMO, simple, reliable, 17 rounds... Not sure if I'd like the police to carry them round however, on the point that the gun is just too good... In Melbourne the police carry around big heavy Smith & Weston revolvers instead of semi automatics... Why? because if a thug takes down a copper and steals his gun, he'll have a clumsy unwieldly revovler with only six shots, instead of an idiot-proof fullly loaded semi-automatic like the Glock

 

I carry a Glock off-duty, and I love it! It's a good little gun with a .45 punch!

The department I work for carries Sig P226 .40s, which aren't bad. My last department used Sig P226 9mms, then upgraded to Sig P220s. Doesn't bother me at all!! Sigs are damned fine guns!

 

Im not a big Glock fan, mostly from an ergonomic standpoint, just wasnt comfortable in my hand, but in their defense they have shown to be one of the most reliable and toughest pistols made.

I carry a Beretta 92F.It's reliable and fits my hand like a glove.This allows me to shoot damn well with it.Glocks are reliable,have three internal safety mechanisms,but the best feature I believe is you have the same trigger pull every time.On other semi-autos,the first shot is a double action pull.

 

Right now my fav 9mm pistol (and probably my most fav handgun) is the Browning Hi-Power. I don't think it's too shabby. The reason I like it? I may have a lot to learn, but I think the name's cool.
Does anyone have the advantages and disadvantages for the Hi-Power?

 

You do realise that the Browning "Hi-Power"is a design dating from the 1920's? While being designed by Browning it was developed and built in Belgium by FN in the 1930's and originally designated as the P35.

It's refreshing to find someone who likes "classic" firearms

 

I was going to point out that the Hi-Power design has been around for quite some time,but Cholbert beat me to it.That certainly speaks volumes about the pistols quality.

 

Canadian army still uses them althought the Navy did switch.

 

I'd like to have a Hi-Power in .40S&W.

 

Yeah. The Hi-Power may have less ammo capacity than other 9mm pistols like the Beretta 92, but it can be modified to fire a more powerful .40 S&W cartridge. And I think it can still carry 10 of those in the magazine.
