Has anybody actually ever checked our domain site?

    http://www.fun-online.sk

Its actually got some quite good high resolution pictures of fighter aircraft, tanks and (ahem) other things...

Also does anybody have any feasible explanation as to why the forum of a Slovakian dating site happens to be all about military hardware?

Acctualy Vought SB2U Vindicator was named vibrator. In US service it was replaced by SBD Dountless and relegated to training purposes. Marines as ussualy had to contend with NAVY's scrap and used them operationaly in battle of Midway (they were SB2U-3 type). Plane was previously used by french Aeronavale in 1940 campaign with small sucess. British were basicly forced to buy planes built for France and named the type Cheesepeake. They used them for shore ASW duties for short time before they turned them into hacks. Planes biggest defect was that it was not stable in dive and started shaking vilently (a strange defect for a dive bomber, hence the nick vibrator). In dive bombing runs power dive (full throtle dive) had to be used. French planes had dive brakes US did not.

Devastator was Douglas TBD torpedo bomber. It was not a bad plane but it was slow and had inadeqate protection. They preformed well in Coral sea wher they coordinated their attack with dive bombers and fighters well, but at Midway they were butchered becouse of lack of coordination with other planes.

...and of course the Devastator was a Douglas aircraft not Vultee, neither was the Devastator withdrawn after Midway (Immediately at any rate), but it soldiered on in the quieter months following until its planned replacement with the Avenger was completed.

Edit, TISO added to his post whilst I was typing mine...
