Yhe USAAF used the type for reconaissance, ASW patrols, and training. Which was fortunate, since they likely wouldn't have lasted ten seconds against fighter attack.
I think a few may actually have seen combat (or at least were destroyed on the ground) during the first Phillipines campaign.
