Lets say a tiger tank and a t-34 go head to head who would win? I would say a tiger tank. Lets keep this going to see the final outcome.
HSU: Not very specific about the context of the engagement nor the terrain. Still, this will likely be a contest of short duration. If it's a T-34/76 at long-range? Head-to-head? No contest. T-34/85 would fare better only if it gets the first-shot. Better odds for T-34 if able to close the distance, flanking, or spanking said Tiger in arse, but you said head-to-head. The lethal 88... and excellent German optics are tough to beat. Get my drift? Tim
In an engagement where the terrain, the weather and the presence of other units and weapon types are made irrelevant or considered neutral, the Tiger will probably win. This is because its gun far outpenetrates any gun ever mounted on the T-34 (unless we count the test model with the 100mm L/60) and because its armour is considerably thicker than that of any version of the T-34. However, it should be considered that the Tiger was a heavy tank, designed to act as a spearhead for offensives and specifically armed and armoured to fight tank battles. The T-34, on the other hand, was a mass-produced medium tank made for all purposes. They aren't exactly in the same league, so it should come as no surprise that the Tiger would win. If you put up a JS-2 as its opponent, it would get more interesting.
Okay lets change up the situation. Say General Patton gets in a Sherman tank and Field Marshal Rommel gets in another Sherman. Who do think would win.
post subject Why would either Rommel or Patton get into a Sherman when they have plenty of other silly sods to do it for them? I suppose the one with a bottle of 'Fairy Liquid' would be in with a chance!
I dont know just thought it would be funny. Why not? Its a what if question? I think it would be a good match.
It shames me to admit that we actually had a thread on this subject... Feel free to browse through it, it just might answer your question. http://www.fun-online.sk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1859
I did not mean to start a thread. Wow, does humor get turned around sometimes. I just thought I would get simple answers like Patton, or Rommel, not paragraphs that are kinda insulting.
But you can't just post a name! We're too interested in why! I don't think we know enough about the men or the situation to be able to answer your question truthfully.
Hi, As 'head to head" qualifies your question, one can assume the two were within the killing range of each other. If this be so, the advantage usually would be with the T-34 essentially for three reasons: Having the faster rate of fire. Having the ability to more quickly lay on its target. Not to be discounted, the propensity of Tigers to fire first. Cheers, Gerry
Tiger at distance would win T-34 would have more of a chance at shorter distances out flanking the tiger.
I would agree with that Merlin, if the crews of both tanks where equal in training and battle tactics.
question HSU21......Errrr... are you not confusing the answer with the recent answer from Veteran. Gerry Chester of the RIH (two post previous) with my rather flippant answer regarding the Fairy Liquid bottle???
alright here are the two crews Sherman - Patton Macarthur Bradley FDR Winston Churchill vs Sherman - Rommel Mainstein Von Rundesdt Hitler Himmler
