I am trying to get information about my wife's grandfather who recently passed away. He was a WWII vet, serving in the Army. We really don't know much about his time in the service...he didn't like to talk about it. I wanted to find out more about him and his career in the army. I am new to this. How can I (and can I) find out more about his army record? We just want to find out where he served during the war and what he did, as much as we can. Thanks in advance. Chris
I guess I could have provided that piece of imformation, huh. He was in the U.S. Army. His name was Wilbur Paul Hore (changed lastname to Orr after the war). After talking to my wife I may have been wrong about his presence at the Battle of the Bulge, but he was at the crossing of the Rhine. I certainly appreciate your help. I wish I could give you more info. at this time. I am searching. Chris
Dear Chris, Here are a few sites to start at: http://www.nara.gov/regional/mpromp.html (US archives military records info) http://www.usigs.org/library/military/links/index.htm (US military records research) http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/military.htm (various research links)
Hey Roland, thanks for these sites, I was just getting ready to post the one i had which was the first you posted. The first one is pretty good, this is the one I went to to find some vital info on my grandfather, which eventually lead up to me being invited to a U-Boat vets reunion and are now an official member of U 181 crew and the Kriegsmarine. Thanks again Roland.
