I am new and trying to find out what unit my father Leroy Hand was in in WW2. He volunteered for a QM Truck company in Kansas and was stationed on Hawaii. While there he seemed to have volunteered for the 27th Div. from NY. He took judo lessons in Hawaii and taught other soldiers. He then fought in Saipan and Okinawa.

His stories implied he was part of a special unit that did scouting and reconnaissance. I have a picture of him relaxing (probably in Hawaii) with other soldiers. Their names, hand written on the picture, were, Foley, Riley, Murray, Kelly, Roach and Sheffield.

A picture tells 1000 words. Post it up. And share some of the stories. Bet there is a story there.
